The last dozen or so times I got my CK30 out the HST will stick at the speed you are going and I have to return it to neutral with my foot every time for about five or ten minutes. I have lubed this to death especially where the shaft enters to transmission housing and it still sticks for the first few minutes of operation. I've discovered that if I put it in neutral it will pop right back to neutral. Only when you have one of the ranges selected does it seem to stick in position. After a few minutes it gradually starts to free up and return on it own. Anyone have any ideas? It's something I really have to pay attention to or I'll run into an attachment trying to put it on either front or back.

Thanks
Steve

Steve, Search in this forum...I think they had a problem with this and a "kit" to fix it? I remember reading about it a little a long time ago...

Mine does the same thing, seems to go away once things are good and warmed up. I don't think it's right.

The HSt pedal has a damper and return spring assembly under the right floor board. Make sure the rod of the damper assembly is lubricated. Also follow to where the HST control rod goes through the case. Make sure you lubricate everywhere even at the case. We have seen a few of them get sticky. A good coating of white grease ussually does the trick.

There is oil in the damper assembly thet can leek out over time. If a good lubicating doesn't work, even at the case, you may need to check the oil in the damper assembly.

The HST control rod (the treadle pedal is attached to it) has a bit of in and out play going through the transmission case. I get a firm grip on the treadle pedal and work the shaft in and out through the side of the tranny to help move the lubricant along the shaft. The first time mine froze up it took 4-5 days of daily doses of penetrating fluid & working the shaft(via the treadle pedal)in/out & front/back to break through the corrision. Since that early episode I lubricate that shaft often, on a regular basis. It's been a smooth operating treadle pedal ever since.

I wonder how you'd check the oil in the damper assembly?

What puzzles me though is why it will not stick while you have the range selector in one of the neutral positions and work the treadle, it seems to work like it is suppose to and return to it's middle position right away. I have like I said worked the shaft in and out and rotated it for the last month or two and this doesn't seem to be helping the problem. If it were sticking while the range selector was in neutral I would suspect the shaft or the damper as the culprit. Maybe it will work out over time and I'll keep pounding the lubes to it.

I have no idea if the Kioti HST is similar in design to the New Hollands, but it seems we share this problem with you. In our case, it is likely to happen with the engine at low rpm (1200 to 1600) and under load, sometimes only light loads such as just moving the tractor. The reason ours sticks is that the charge pump does not supply enough fluid to the transmission to cause the swashplate to return to neutral. In effect, the transmission is seeing negative pressure from the charge pump. On many NHs, if the rpm is too low, the pedal actually tends to go to maximum rather than return to neutral. By simply keeping rpm up near the 2000, the problem goes away.

That's interesting info. I know, it's been said here, the Kioti HST needs around 2000 RPM's to operate properly.

Steve, Have you checked the HST fluid level?

I changed my fluids at about 220 hrs and the HST tranny level is probably a little higher than it should be.

That's interesting, I must experiment with that and see if rpm's do change things.

Thanks

That was Michigan Iron who mentioned a while back about the HST needing 2000 rpm's to operate at full power or properly. I though that was to get full benefit out of the drive.

My CK30hst is nothing like Steve's. If I move it right after a start-up at 1200-1500 rpm's it's naturally a little sluggish with the engine and tranny being cold but it doesn't keep moving like Steve's with the pedal staying in place. When I let off the pedal, it returns and the tractor may sometimes try to creep just a little but that's it. I grease the shaft going into the case as mentioned along with a little lube on the damper ball ends. Also, there is a grease fitting on the damper set-up.
