I have 2007 ford pickup. Can anyone tell me what the sensor is for in the front wheel hubs or front wheel bearings. Thanks Lee

I think you may be asking about a wheel speed sensor , if so it is used for the anti lock braking system to compare rotational speeds and utilize the information in the ABS computer.

If even one fails- the ABS light will come on and stay on, sometimes just a few metal filings can (blind) them.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if they can be replace? The reason I ask is this is the 3rd set of hubs I just put in. They say they are un serviceable, I can see you can't replace bearings. I was thinking if a guy pulled the sensor he could aleast grease them now and then. The 1st set I put in I got them from Napa and you can guess where they were from. I all most didn't use them, but I was almost sure ford would of been double the price. Come to find out they were almost the same price. Napa sure is useing alot of china stuff and charging OEM prices, just about all there bearing are junk. Someone sure is getting fat off that S%%%.

I lost all faith in Napa when my fuel filter on my Dmax I got from them had plastic threads.

O'Rileys is now my got place for anything exotic.

A friend bought a new wheel bearing from Napa, installed it, got 40 miles down the road and the bearing came apart and caused his tire to tip into the control arm. The truck had to be towed to a shop and the tech found that the NAPA bearing had been assembled with only 4 balls in one row. Napa refunded the purchase price on the bearing but wouldn't cover the cost of any tire damage or tow bill etc. Napa corporate's answer was that the bearing was not installed by a "certified mechanic." The local store owner did step up and put a replacement tire on the truck, but the whole situation put a bad taste in my friend's mouth.

Many aftermarket (maybe most) duramax filters have plastic threads. And the WIF sensor on the bottom, including the threaded drain is plastic, from the factory. This isn't hardly just Napa doing this.

I'm not attesting to their quality though. I don't use many products from them in my shop, way overpriced most times that I call.

As for the bearings, I would think Timken is your best shot, they hold up the best in my area. But it's rare to see so many repeat failures so it would seem there may be some underlying cause? Lifted, bigger tires?
If you really get tired of it and have money to blow, check out spyntec.com. It eliminates nearly all weaknesses, spreads the bearings out, makes them serviceable, and on a dodge allows you to unlock the front end. I've installed several of them. Very nice kits, but expensive

I walked across the street and bought a Fram from Auto Zone and it was much better made. Yes, Fram!

On some GM's, I have removed the sensor and cleaned the eyeball and all is good...Don't know if Ford has that option.
