Athol - home of starrett, the instrument maker. I was there back in the 80's. GM has bought a lot of Starret stuff, and we bought a bunch from Adcole also.

I had 1-2 college classmates from Athol. They had a real classic MA accent.

News said it was an old toy factory -- I wonder what the original toy company was -- anybody know?

We use a bunch of older Starret instruments at work -- good stuff.

Born and raised here.

Yes, Starretts is still alive and kicking, although many of their product lines are now manufactured in their other plants. One in the south, and one overseas I believe.
World famous for their Micrometers. Best ones in the world period. Those are still made here. Half the town was employed by them for the last century.

The building that burned is Cass Toys. They closed maybe 20 yrs ago. They made old fashioned type wooden toys. Like santas workshop type of stuff. Was just being rented out for space now. The was some storage, and a couple of businesses.

I know the folks. small town still, everyone here knows everyone.
