I have a 276D. I am having trouble with shifting. When I press and release the clutch there is a huge delay before the machine will move everytime. I have a small similar delay when shifting into each shuttle gear the first time. After this the tractor pulls fine. The trans/hyd fluid and filter was changed, and filter screen cleaned. The main and delay relief valve springs were checked and clearances seem OK. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rob

1 st . Welcome to the Forum...Was it doing this B-4 filter & fluid was changed ? If not. What type hyd fluid did you use. Hyd fluid should meet JD 303 specs

One possible cause is control linkage out of adjustment. Remedy per manual is to adjust shift linkage. This is from a 226 manual so your 276 may be different.

Thanks for the replys.
Yes this was doing this before oil change. I will check my manual on the control linkage, but it appears to be dropping in during shift.

You mentioned that you checked the springs of the relief valve, but did you carefully clean the tiny side port of the relief valve? That was the problem for me on my 1510D although mine got to the point that it would not go into gear at all. When you pull the valve out there will be a small dimple on one side and that dimple should have a tiny hole in the center which needs to be clean.

If that is not it I believe the next step is to check the pressure from the transmission pump and other more serious matters.

thank you.

Does that mean that all is right again, or does it mean "I will check it out when I have time" or "that did not solve my problem but I will look elsewhere?"

If it fixed it then we would like to know a bit more so that we can refine our diagnosing procedures, if it did not fix it then we need to know that too. Can you fill us in a bit more about the situation?

Put the relief valves back in after dimensional chk. and cleaning ports. Filled with JD-303 compatible, and Let it warm up. Working much better back to a small delay when releasing the clutch, and none when shifting the shuttle. Pretty happy with results. Thanks all

 The small delay is a design feature to allow the tiller (or mower) to spin up before the tractor starts to move. So that the load of moving and starting an implement are not simultaneous. This delay is adjustable by regulating the spring pressure with shims in the relief valve that you had apart.

Hellom Mike,
Thanks for the reply re the delay,my 336 must have the same feature, when using my finish mower I notice a slight delay which allows the mower to start just ahead of the tractor moving, and since I am somewhat new to yanmar, wondered if is was normal, sounds like it is. Just wanted to say thanks for the tip !
