does anyone here have hughesnet internet service?all can get is dialup where i live.any info would be appreciated

I had it until Verizon 3G wireless became available 2 years ago. Hughesnet doesn't work as fast as they advertise but it's better than dialup. Their customer service sucks. Are you sure you can't get "Verizon Broadband"? Check their coverage map.

I would not recommend hughesnet!!! Go to DSL ? Cable ? VOIP ? Security ? Satellite ? Fiber ? News ? Tips ? Reviews ? Community ? Tools - dslreports.com and check the reviews of hughesnet. Check all cellphone carriers before you pick a satellite internet provider. Also check into local wifi providers.
I live in a very rural area and i use Verizon wireless as my internet provider. Also check Mobile Broadband - Coverage, Tips, News, Reviews, 4G & 3G Routers, MiFi, Verizon, Sprint, CLEAR Internet : EVDOinfo.com for options. I am able to game on my PlayStation 3 and don't use all of my 5GB cap. I use a cellphone 3g booster with a cradle point router to send wifi to my whole house. Any questions please ask.

don't go satellite unless u have no other options..........the commercials are not the whole truth. They do provide internet but i don't think it is better then dial-up

My neighbor has Hughesnet and HATES it. I was desperate enough to consider it, but after talking to him, I resumed looking elsewhere.

I use a Verizon Wireless card in a laptop (from work) but ATT has just put a 3G tower up about 200 feet away from my door. That's what I'll be using, until someone comes up with a better solution in our area.

If you have cell phone service most likely you will be able to get some sort of air card reception from Verizon or AT&T. The data signal is not always equal to the cell phone signal. In our area The AT&T cell phones are the best and Verizon data air card is the best for the laptop/computer. The air cards are better in inclement weather, with satellite you will loose the signal.

I have a metal roof and the reception is better by a window.

A place like Best Buy will have the air cards for you to try out. Just know the return policy. Research the data limits if you are a heavy user.

Unless its a last resort and your desperate, stay away from all of the satellite internet companies.. From posts here and on other forums, most ppl HATE all of them with a passion - unless its there only option than dialup

with the wireless cards you can get a single USB unit OR they have a 'my wifi' which will allow up to 5 users at a time.. BUT I saw in one of the airline catalogs a wireless router that you connect to the USB unit so it will broadcast the signal for multiple persons to use

I use HughesNet because it is my only option besides dial-up. The only problem I have is the limits on downloads, if you exceed the limit, FAP, they slow you down to a snails crawl for 24 hours, however they allow you 1 free restart per month to allow you to get right back up to speed. As soon as something else is available I will certainly switch.
