Well, it finally happened. One of my favorite hunting stand sites got logged. It was it some big timber alongside a swamp. Trees like that won't grow back in my lifetime. Here's what "my tractor did for me". A few pics of how I got my stand site fixed up again since the location is still a really good spot. I plan to sow some winter rye. It seems like a lot of work, but really is not...since it is fun and done for enjoyment. Where I live in SC, deer season ends the 1st of January but we hunt hogs thru March. Then deer season begins August 15, once again.

1st pic...What things looked like after the logging. A lot of tree tops and limbs. I had to push a trail to get to my stand with the tractor first.

2nd pic...I cleared out some debris and moved the tripod to the edge of the treeline. It will blend in better when the weeds, briars and trees thicken and grow back up.

3rd pic...Got it moved and in place.

4th pic...Some of what I cleared.

5th pic...All done! Hope you can see the stand..waaay back there! The blue markings on the trees were sprayed by the loggers to mark the cutting line.

You've done some nice work there. Any hunting spot is great but the deer will adjust to the situation. I've seen them do it where I hunt.

In NY the logging is more selective. That to me looks like clear cutting. In NY they mark the trees and take certain trees as to not clear the land to the dirt as they did at your place.

Redbug,
I've had some great hunts in "chops" like that. Some of my best! Pray that they leave all the waste in the field and not clear it completely. It supplies cover for the deer. It won't take them long to get used to it...I bet you catch a nice buck skirting that swamp before the season ends!

Best of luck to you!

Too bad that happened, but look on the bright side.
Your shooting lanes have increased by about a billion times now.:)

Yes, all that waste will just lay where it is, (unless it floods). I have noticed that the hogs have already been rooting along the edges of the clearcut. You gotta have hardwood if you want fine furniture.

Here's a few more interesting pics:

1st pic...Shows some of the gum stumps. Some of those stumps are almost 5 feet high.

2nd pic...A lot of waste logs. Lots of good firewood at these places.

3rd pic...My shepherd puppy "Pal", learning to supervise while I clean up limbs.
