I owned quite a few saws, this saw, by far is outstanding. I previously owned a Husky 455 Rancher. Decent saw, but lacked the power I was looking for. If you are looking for a saw that is fairly light, nimble and has outstanding power - the 357XP is the one for you. We had a few our lots logged, this has been the perfect saw to carry through the woods to cut up those tops. I run it w/ a 20" bar, and it rips like you would not believe!!

No doubt Stihl makes fine saws, the MS 361 is similar to the 357XP's horse power, but to me the feel and ergonomics of the Husky was perfect.

Nice saw, im sure you'll be happy.

When my husky 51 dies ill likely get a 357 or 372. Id like a little more power for the weight, and a little longer bar too.

Congrats on the new saw. To me, as long as you buy a pro grade saw you wouldnt be dissappionted.

I am kinda partial to dolmars but they don't really have anything that is in the upper 50cc range to compare to the stihl 361 and husky 357. The only close ones are the 5100 @3.9hp and 11.2lbs and the 6400 @4.8hp and 13.6 lbs.

I have cut with all the saws listed above and they are all excellent saws. The only determining factor is personal preference and what kind of deal you can get.

I think my next saw is going to be a home depot makita 6401 that I am going to put an 85cc big bore kit on.

Happy cutting and stay safe

Nice saw!!

I have a 257, which is a much younger generation 357. My saw is 12 years old and used at least 10 hours a week. When it gets retired the 357xp will replace it. Good to hear feed back on this saw.

It is hard to find good saws anymore most of the companies worry more about quanity then quility. Eletrolucs makes most of the small $${box store, poulan, Mc's, craftsman}saws now, even some of the husky's. Sure would be nice if a person could buy a saw and have it last 10+yrs like they use too!

Sounds like you got a nice little saw, you'll be putting the beavers out of business :)

Husky was spun off of Electrolux in 2006. Just like alot of things, some of their brands are made to a price point. Any of the Husky or Johnsered professional equipment (look for the "Made in Sweden" on the tag) is among the best your going to get. 10 years out if a pro saw isnt unheard of by a consumer. My old Husky was running fine after 8 years, till it grew legs.

The 357xp has about the best power/weight ratio you can get. The next jump up on the XP lineup have more power, but the extra weight wear you out a lot faster. I have a 362XP which is about the same as a 372xp size wise but only a tiny amount more power than the 357XP When my saw wears out, it will be a tough decision between the 357XP or 372XP for a new saw. My 362 is 11 years old and I just cut 10 cords of oak without any problems. They often get stolen or run over long before they wear out, even if you use them everyday. I bought mine for $160 at the pawn shop with a brand new bar and chain 2 years ago. It's paid for itself many times already. :D
