Husqvarna 550xp repaired-ish

I still have my McCulloch pro Mac 55 I bought new in the 70's... lol

It was a heck of a saw back then!, but I haven't started it in years!

The last time I ran a McCullough was back in 79, all's I can remember for the short period of time I used it, the saw had a lot of vibration compared to newer saws, you remember that? Might of been just that one saw I used. I looked up that Mac 55 it seems quite peppy to me and this one is runing great, looks comparable to the 550xp, like to see a side by side test. Even that sound brings back memories...............

Last time I ran the pro mac 55, it vibrates, has a manual oiler and boy is it loud! lol Ooooh, when it's wide open, it sounds like it's running at about half of the speed of todays saws too!!

Didn't make me want to run it again!

BTW, first saw I ever bought was a 1010...

My first new saw was a L65 husqvarna bought back in 76 when Partner and Husqvarna kicked Homelite and Mcculloch off the map. In 79 I had to buy the same new saw again after a big tree I was cutting pinched it and drove in the ground, had that one til 84-ish. At the time I thoght it had good power but now I think my smaller Echo 501p would keep up with the old L65 and nowadays I dont even like using a saw without chain brake.

I'd just like to try an old L65 saw just to go down memory lane, back when I had the world by the ---..........

I just watch this new comparison of the new 550xp M2 vs the already outdated 550xp I just bought last month. If I'd only waited I could've bought the new improve model if it is improved. I did the math on the time test at 1:32 on those three cuts and I came up with a 2.38 second cut saving time with the new 550xp-M2, if your good at math, check it see what you come up with, I might wrong.

Now I wonder if 2.38 seconds would out way the cost increase, although one price I see wasn't much more then what I paid at $569.00+tax, and what's with these 14-16 short bars on chainsaws, to me that's 2 more inches I have to bend over.

Looks like the NEW 550 is half pound heavier and I'm a wimp, I'll keep my old lighter saw!!

As for short bars, I like 16" on my 50cc saws, as I don't have to bend over much, I lift the tree/log with the tractor and then do my sawing. :thumbsup:

Not sure that was done very consistently -- with the MK2, he sawed level. With the old 550, he rocked the bar back and forth several times on each cut. That absolutely takes more time.
