I'm guessing my tiller has about 20 hours tops on it.

Maybe I haven't stored it properly and maybe it's letting me know that.

It starts on one pull....but the engine surges constantly unless I put it on full choke. Once I set it from choke to run, it's high/low/high/low etc. with the engine speed.

Since I'm hoping to get my garden up to snuff soon, I'd REALLY appreciate any troubleshooting tips.

I pulled the air cleaner assembly and it looks brand new. I've run it without the air cleaner and it still surges. My gut is telling me I have a carb issue but figured I'd post here prior to tearing it apart.

The Husky manual for this model sucks in regards to troubleshooting engine problems.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Open the low and high speed jets just a touch and run till its hot. Then turn the jets back and see how things work.:D

Forgive me for sounding like a COMPLETE dumba$$ but I'm unsure of where those jets are.

I did pull the air filter housing off and can feel small jets of gas spraying my hand from the carb while it's running/surging. I don't know if that means anything.

Anyway, where would those jets be located? I'm assuming they are screws mounted to the housing of the carb?

I may be a newb to things such as this but am not a total ding a ling. I just need knowledgeable folks such as you to point me in the right direction!

I also pulled the spark plug and it looks good. Again, not knowing if this helps but trying to provide as much info as I can! :)

If someone could point me to a carb rebuild kit for this tiller, that would be great.

There's no doubt in my mind that the issue is with the carb.

Seniors moment on my behalf.

For some reason the words tiller and chain saw seem to be synonymous to my aging mind.:ashamed::eek:

I'll bow out on any more suggestions other than the carb jets may be fixed for emission compliance.

Dirt in tank? Plugged screen in thank? Fuel filter?

Thoroughly clean carb and rebuild. Run soft wire through all orifices in carb. Follow with carb cleaner and compressed air.

I doubt its anything else. 99% of the time its a dirty carb. Its possible it could be something in the governor or Air leak where carb gasket attaches to motor or pinhole in fuel line but thats remote..

Pulled the carb. Geez this thing looks brand new. I'm almost wondering if the surge is due to air leaks around the carb rather than the carb itself....like scooby said.

I'll pick up a gasket kit over the weekend or Monday and put it all back together.

I'll definitely take better care of the tiller once all of this is done and it's back to working properly.

Well, bought B&S kit #792006 and attempted to overhaul the carb. Put everything back together and now the engine runs WORSE.

I must have done something wrong.

Now it will only run on full choke and still surges a bit even on full choke which it didn't do before.

I hate to cough up the coin to get it fixed since I'm currently unemployed but I need this running so I can get my garden ready to save coin on veggies.

Any thoughts/tips? I coated the carb in carb/choke cleaner and used a small paperclip to clean every orifice I saw. I blew it out with compressed air and figured it would be good to go.

How I made it worse I have no idea...

The carb does use a spacer and I wonder if I put in on backwards since I didn't see the orientation of it when I pulled it. The spacer fell off.

The engine model# is: 120202 3780 B8.

I had really hoped to have this running tonight. I've rebuilt a Husky 455 Rancher chainsaw that was dry gassed (new P&C) and it's running great. I don't know what's kicking my tail on this engine but something sure is!

Should I just order a new carb? I've got to find the cheapest possible means to get this operating again.

Much, MUCH thanks!
