Are the shafts mostly interchangable? I have a 232L which is a long shaft, I wish to make it shorter. Now its good for the pond bank, but anything else, I end up with a sore back, and a burnt forarm. I am 5'10".

Can't help you on the shaft problem, but I can comment on the burnt forearm.I puchased one last week and after 15 min of use trying to edge with it,I returned it and got a Stihl trimmer(dealer had both brands).Happy camper now, except for the fact that all the high dollar trimmers turn counter-clockwise,throwing everything back towards you when you edge with them.
