Hyd Fluid 4000 Ford

Can unversal hyd fluid be used in a 4000 ford (early 70's) and is there a way to change the filter without taking the top cover off?

Straight hydraulic oil is not to be used, but universal tractor fluid meeting New Holland 134D specification is fine.

You must remove the hitch cover to service either the return or suction filters.
