So no one has ever rebuilt a floor jack ???

Not worth it. I hate to say it but its like a TV, not worth fixing. Just throw it away and get a new on unless its a $.25 part.

I had a nice 2.5 ton Napa Floor Jack that would leak down. The kit to rebuild it from Napa was $75. I picked up a new 3.5 ton at Sams Club with rapid up for $59 back in 2000 and use it about 3 times a week or more and its not missed a beat.

Same thing with a 6 ton Napa Bottle Jack I had. I just got a new one at Harbor Freight 6-7 years ago for $19.99 on sale and tossed the old one.

It worth more as scrap metal. Sorry to say that but thats the facts!

The only other suggestion I have that may slow it down but not stop it is at Lowes or Home Deopt they make a Teflon product in rope form. You could get some 1/16" material or so, it comes on little cards in 3' lengths or so, and remove the nut compressing the plunger o-ring and give it a couple wraps. You put it near the o-ring and when you put the compression nut back down it squishes out and seals. Its in the plumbing dept.

DougM,
I've used power steering leak stop on inexpensive hydraulic systems.
It has something in it to cause o-rings, seals etc. to swell stopping the leak. Sometimes it takes a month or so to do its job. Worth a try?
I have not had the b***s to use it on expensive systems. Just stuff I was going to haul to the dump because replacment was cheaper than fixing.

Not to get off the subject, but I have used the sealer type PS fluid in my Ford 2000. I belive it was Prestone brand. It was just something to try to get by, until I had time to tear in to it. I filled it up, and ran for about 4 or 5 hours that day. Decided to power wash it off when I finished. Not sure what's in that stuff, but it hasn't leaked since. And that's been about 8 years ago... The only time I've had to add, was when I installed the Aux. transmission in '03, then to replace the clutch last winter, and lost fluid when I split the tractor.

But I'd try the O-ring and packing first.

The only thing I've had rebuilt were my trusty old Walker, and Hein-Werner brand bottle jacks, and that's been over 20 years ago, and they were old when I bought them at auctions.

I had a craftsman jack that was leaking, the o rings inside were not normal, couldent get replacements- so I bought a replacement for 100. with 2 jack stands; and for the heck of it I asked the sears repair shop the cost of a new pump assy on my new jack.. about 150.00. Go figure....
