working on a lil homemade backhoe and never really messed with hydraulics ... was wondering where the best place to purchase hose and fittings is? I see tsc has some hose sections not sure how there price compares with elsewhere? its a 2000lb system and im needing 3/8 and 1/2" hose. one end 6orb and the other 6sae and on the 1/2' one end is 8orb and the other 8 sae. this is just a homebuilt toy and not for steady use so I don't need the best quality trying to keep the price down

FWIW...ORB (o-ring boss) and SAE are the same type of fitting (straight thread w/o-ring seal)

I thought SAE and JIC (closely related to AN) were the same, and ORB was different.

I can't say they are the least expensive...as I have never priced the same assemblies from different sites...but they are very reasonable and are very accommodating...They are a fraction of dealer OEM assemblies and almost always less than I can get custom hoses made in town at NAPA, O'Reilly etc. or a repair shop...

One thing I have started doing on new projects and some replacement hoses...is just buy straight end male pipe ends and use the female swivel fittings to make up the angles etc...the mechanical female swivel fittings are almost always cheaper than the alternative pressed on hose end fittings...also there is no sealant required as they are a mechanical joint like a JIC only a little sturdier IMO...

Surpluscenter's hoses are cheaper than discount's (until you get to longer lengths where they're closer) but come in 6" or 1' increments. Discount custom makes hoses so you can get any length. Both are cheaper than my local hydraulic store. TSC's adaptors are about the same as the store. I didn't look at their hoses.

On my recent projects I used NPT to JIC adaptors so I can use JIC as much as possible- elbows, hose ends , etc. I'm only a beginner at this stuff but I'm already disliking NPT.
