HFEC, Yes, it turns out I had far too much oil in my case! My fault too. Darn! My glass started leaking sometime after my last hyd change. I've been working it hard moving dirt; as I'd check the level it looked low, so I added a quart at a time; but...level never seemed to move up?? So I just added another quart, and another, and so on.
Well, I guess I was too impatient! I thought that thin hyd fluid would run right down into the body? Guess I was very wrong. Now that I've seen inside the sight level hole, I know just where the level will be. At the low line, it's just creeping into the hole itself; and at the full line the hole is approx halfway filled with oil. I won't make that mistake again!
This morning I rolled it off my RR tie blocking, let it sit for an hour or so and checked the glass...it was just "slightly" below the full line! I checked for leaks and had none! The fluid I caught in my drain pan as I removed the sight plug; I had screened through a funnel with the mesh metal lining because I planned to re-use it. Well it was not needed so I just stowed my cans in the garage and went to work. After several hours playing/moving dirt I finally quit for the day, checked level again and it's right at the full line! Goody!
Hi Bud Soda! Good to hear from you again. That's my thoughts about the sight glass too...it's going to be a recurring item needing to be addressed! That's why I'd like to get (2) replacement plugs just to keep on hand. My original plug "looked" like it had some sort of "threaded ridge" circling it but it was "way" squished down. I used a fair quantity of silicone - but - I really don't think it'll last for more than 3 - 4 years; if I'm lucky! The hole in the case looked like a machined hole and had a groove cut into it just a fraction of the depth inside. So, I don't know how cutting threads into the casing would work? I'd sure be hesitant to try it! Of course, I don't have machinist tools or knowledge/talent either so that helps keep me leery! I'll be here cheering you on if you decide to attempt it! Will you check with your dealer and see how much a sight plug costs? I can't imagine them being very expensive? They are simply rubber/plastic tiny little plugs! Weight = next to a gnat!
Anyhow, Happy New Year to all!! Greg
