Hyd Quick connects

Thinking about adding Hyd quick connects to my FEL lines. Does anyone know if they will slow down the speed of the FEL due to the restriction in the lines??? Think it would be handy to be able to remove the FEL every once and a while and the quick connects would make for a fast off and on. Thanks in advance,

There shouldn't be any difference in the flow, and yes, they would make it very easy to take the FEL off. I"m surprised they weren't already on there.

Quick couplers can not be more restrictive than your control valve… And your right they do make for handy coupling. KennyV.

Can't imagine a FEL without them. Our FEL is off as much as it is on the rig. Add them , I don't think you'll be sorry that you did.

The tractor came to me from Tractor Masters in Sacramento. When delivered to my place in Nevada the dealer had mounted the Koyker 160 FEL. The dealer said that they don't normaly install the quick connects that come with the loaders because they restrict the flow and slow the loader down. I went back to the dealer anyway and got the quick connects and the bypass hose ( open center system ) anyway thinking some day they might be handy to have. Thinking when I drain the fluid and clean the filter next weekend, I will install the quick connects and see what happens. Dealer said most people never remove the loader from the tractor. I can see when changing a clutch, or some other repairs, being able to get the FEL off quickly without having a hyd fluid mess would have a advantage. Sounds like you all like quick connets, I'm going ahead and putting them on this weekend. Thanks,

I would file this away as a less-than-truthful statement meant to either cover-up his techs missing the step of their installation, or trying to save a couple bucks.

I agree with DocHeb. Quick disconnects are designed so that they do not restrict the fluid flow when the proper size hose is used. For future reference, I would be skeptical of anything that dealer said.

Think I'm a little skeptical already because of some other issues. Somewhat better than buying a car from a used car lot, they did provide some extra parts and stuff on later visits. The hyd quick connects came out of a 5 gallon bucket they seam to be collecting them in. Didn't try to charge for them either. They gave me the bypass hose, but I'm going to have to go fish for the fittings to make it all work. Lucky for me there is a tractor dealer a mile down the road from the house in Nevada. Still to be fair, I'm very happy with the tractor and implements I bought from them, got a great price and delivery 150 miles away. I knew I was buying a used 1977 tractor that would need some work sooner than a new one.

My Koyker goes on and off in 10 minutes. You will notice it should have come with the kick stands that hold up the loader when removed. There is a learning curve initially and the instructions are pretty good. I cut a lot of grass in the summer and can't imagine keeping the loader on because of added weight on the front, rougher ride and restricted manuvering. In my opinion this dealer is not very familiar with appropriate applications. Koyker sends the quick disconnects with their loaders and makes it apparent how user friendly they are. The only flow restriction is cerebral. You certainly have a very good loader!

Sounds fishy that he did not charge for the couplers. They are not cheap. If he had a bucket full it sounds like they are not installing them to save time/money.

Try to keep the couplers clean. Aftre 4-5 years I have had to replace a few sets due to corrosion locking the quickconnects. My dealer gave me a free can of a penatrating oil to try to help keep them corrosion free. I'm still going to put something over the couplers as well as just USING the danged things every once in a while.

The rust in the couplers looks like it stared just from dust in the air and on the FEL from stuff falling on the couplers from time to time. Then the humidity in the air got into the dust.... At least that is my theory anyway.

My 4n1 bucket has never been removed from my FEL since it was installed. No reason to do so. Now that I have a pallet fork the bucket is removed often. I think this will help keeps things workng. I don't know how I lived without pallet forks... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
