Hyd trans foaming?

Massey Ferg 1220 compact, the trans breather tube has hyd oil foaming out of it when it gets warm. Any ideas?
The tube comes off of the top of the trans case and is about 30 inches long reaching up to just about the steering wheel. It foams up and makes an awful mess.

I don't know for sure, but had a problem with hydraulic oil foaming on an old 9N. Was told the problem was water in the oil which was being mixed at a high pressure. Changed the oil and the problem went away.

Have any one else seen this? Or can anyone else confirm this?

Could be oil/water mix,I have also seen internal seals cause foaming or a seal sucking air.Tom

I'd check the oil level. If OK, I'd change the oil, filter, and clean any screens present. It's a little hard for oil in a tractor to get contaminated, but if it's a used tractor, almost anything could have happened. At least by changing the oil and filters, you're starting with what is known to be right for the tractor.

Other types of problems that could produce what you describe usually would be accompanied by poorly working hydraulics--either weak or excessively hot oil.

Rabies? ;O) On the serious side, I will concur with TomG. For lack of a better place to start, I would change the filters, fluid, and clean the screens before going anywhere else. This will allow you to eliminate the most likely cause, and put you in position for further troubleshooting if necessary.

I will try the oil change and filter. The tractor is 5 years old and original filter and oil. But only has 120 hours. I did check level and color and they were fine.
