I would like to add a hydraulic top link to my old ford tractor. 1966 ford 5000. I have to add hydraullics to it first, or at the same time. Might as well make it a triple control, or what ever you call it. In case I was to add something else hydraulic later. But something after market, since the tractor is so old, parts are unlikely available to add hydraulics and the top link that are factory, and they would be so expensive. I see them all the time for smaller model tractors, Ford tractors. Not sure what will work on a larger tractor like mine. I bought it with a front end loader, but it would never operate correctly, So I just took it off. I did not have any money at the time to see about someone fixing it to work properly. Being a Retired disabled veteren, does not give me a lot of money, but playing with my tractor landscaping and maintainings the two mile gravel road to my home is my hobby. 2019-03-07_122621.jpg
Any suggestions on how to start this build?01 01 08.jpg

After looking around more, I think what I meant to say was a Top-N-Tilt Kit thats why I mentioned triple hydrolic controls.

Sounds like a fun project. If I’m seeing the photo correctly you already have hydraulics for the loader.
Snap some photos of the loader valve (sides, top bottom)- hopefully it has a few extra ports that are capped. If that’s the case adding on to that shouldn’t be that difficult for a home mechanic. I’d recommend “stacking” valves. You buy what you need today but can add later. It may be a little easier on the budget....at least initially.

Ervin,
Where did the the front end loader get it's oil from? Separate pump or from the pump on the tractor?

Going from memory the tractors hydraulic pump feeds up to three point hitch via a hole in the transmission case to the transmission cover / seat base. I suspect that you will have to have a special plate to take power from this circuit to feed the auxiliary valves and then back into the 3 point. Might want to try some tractor scrap yards like Worthing tractor to see if they have these valves or the cover available.

Not sure if this the plate you need or not.

good luck on this project.

Thanks for your service for our country.

Please describe how the loader operated. A hose in the wrong place can make it not work properly.

I have marked up one of your photos which I think shows two hydraulic lines which likely go to the loader.

If I am correct then the solution is simple. My check is to ask how many lines currently connect to the loader valve? 6 or 7?

Buy a new valve, 2 or 3 spool, with a Power Beyond feature for the rear of your tractor.

Connect the supply line now going to the loader to the new valve IN port and tee into the existing return from the TANK port of the new valve so the new valve has a return path to the reservoir.

Use the power beyond port on the new valve to feed your existing loader supply or IN port.

When you buy the new valve make certain the part(s) necessary to have power beyond are included as they usually have to be ordered separately for you to install in the new valve body.

I don't remember seeing any triple remote scv's for Ford 5000 tractors but here's several examples of dual spool remotes offer by Yesterday's Tractor parts dept. Call 800-853-2651 to Order

The loader never worked properly. I think the fools who hooked it up when i bought the tractor and loader did it on the cheap. They added a place to plug into, but put the return line into the opening where you check your rear end fluid level. when I took it in the a different dealer, they told me, that is not right. They said you need to add the proper hydraulic box just under the front seat. I did not have the money for that. but yesterday found a double spool KIT which includes most things correctly, as well as in and out return lines from that box, to add on for $725.00 A factory reproduction of the original hook up. So I think I am going to spring for that.
I was expecting to pay easily a $1000 to $1500. And I have seen a hydralulic multiplier for additional ports for additional hydraulic spools and should make the front end loader work properly. It is a two spool set up itself. Just need to put everything back on the tractor. I took it off, so I can put it on. thanks for replying.

they did tie into the existing plate under the seat, but hydraulic has to come and go someplace, and they only had a set up for it to come out. Makeing it go back into the rear end axle was wrong since the rear end and the transmission are separate on a 1966 Ford 5000. It was not until 1968, they made them bleed into one and another and share the same fluid. I don't know how it worked at all. I had to eventually replace the hydraulic pump on the tractor under the right food rest area to get the three point hitch to work again. So they had it hooked up all wrong.
What I just found fits Ford tractors 600 to 3000 up to a certain year and also up top 1967 Ford 5000. I have never seen a site that explained it working for all Ford tractors in those year ranges. Otherwise I would have gotten one years ago. The ones i have seen up to now, said Ford 600, 700, 800 and 900, but those were the only sizes they mentioned. Apparently, they fit all the way up to the 1967 Ford tractors that were made up till that time. But they are different for the Ford NAA and earlier tractors. Though I might be mistaken on that. The Ford NAA was what they used to rename the Ford 600 in 1954, but I understand they had a heavier casting for the rear end and transmission. I think. Don't take my word on this. Looked it up Will NOT fit NAA, Jubilee, Golden Jubilee (bolt pattern is different)
I have seen these parts on scrap tractors, and they ask more than new parts prices and most everything.

Double Spool Double Acting Hydraulic Remote Valve Kit or Single spool is what they made then, and what the make now. Anything else is after Market, and just hook up by hose to the hydrolic area.
Steiner parts had a kit for less, but does not mention a Ford 5000, just up to a 4000. But it should fit. I would just feel comfortable knowing them saying it will fit. Might have to write to the. Its on $618

they came from the plate under the seat and made three places to plug into a hydraulic line, the two lines you see in the picture, One plugged into one of the three openings they mounted behind the seat and just hooked together with galvanized plumbers pipe for household use, the other they taped into the check fluid plug on the rear axle, that is wrong any way you look at it. the pressure should return into the hydraulic area, But that is how they had it, and most likely why it never properly worked. At one time I was being told there must be air in the lines. I just took it all off.. Then purchase a BobCat 753 skid steer loader to move dirt and gravel with. Now it works perfectly.
