135 massey ferguson gas
Hello, I just got my 135 Massey Ferguson gas tractor today to work on my property, doing a little maintenance I noticed a drip coming from the
underside of the tractor ,seems to be hydraulic oil.the drain plug was lose after I tightened it the drip slowed down....this is new to me should there be
a weep hole there and if so why ? and I guess I should not seal it up....and of course would happen if I did?.....

Welcome to TBN--I can't speak to your tractor, but hydraulics are usually closed systems. I'm sure some setups have venting for air pressure building up tucked away, but fluids should stay dry and inside. If its coming out the drain it may need a new washer... or the mating surfaces could be scored--likely just loose...

If the drain plug was loose and tightening it solved the problem I wouldn't worry about it.

Most hydraulic systems I am aware of are vented, not closed. When the system is worked and the oil becomes heated it expands. This in turn pressurizes the heated air in the system. Closing a system tight leaves nowhere for oil and air to expand and will push seals out or cause oil to leak through them. I cannot count the number of times I have corrected oil leaks by simply cleaning the vent. I have seen clogged vents cause leaks on vehicle engines, differentials, and even my little JD855.

Not too long ago my tractor started hissing and dripping when I worked it. I located the vent and found it was totally clogged with dirt. Dug it out with a wire and cleaned it with carb cleaner then put it back on and all the hissing and leaking stopped.

Weep holes are usually beneath the dry clutch compartment and usually have a cotter pin installed loosely to flop around and keep the hole clean. Any leaking oil from the engine rear crank shaft seal or tranny input seal(s) will accumulate (if not draind via weep hole) and wind up on your clutch causing it to slip.

As others have stated, hyd sys is closed at the bottom, vented somewhere top side....probably.

There is a weep hole at the bell housing with a cotter pin in it. If that's where the drip is at, the transmission input shaft seal is leaking. there is no weep hole in the vicinity of the drain plugs.
