HAD a question about" Hydraulic 68 " can I use this in my 1963 Massey 35 special . Thanks .

i'd at least, reccomend a UTF fluid that meets the agco / mf specs.

iso68 is a plain hyd oil.. jack oil. not meant to be used in rear end or trannies.. etc...

So it wont be equivilent to Straight mineral oil SAE 80 as in the manual ? Every store I go to every one has a different suggestion/product . I will call the local massey dealer and see whats available here. One Dealer suggested the hydraulic 68 . Thanks for the quick reply Soundguy.

iso 68 IS a PLAIN HYD ONLY OIL.

It ois NOT rated for rear ends, trannies, front final drives.. etc.

It's only usefull in straight HYD applications.

if you want something more similar to an 80 mineral gear oil.. hit napa.. they sell a gl1 90w mineral gear oil.. lots of older ford guys use it.

tractor supply sells a gl3 90wt mineral gear oil as well.

you should also be able to use an 80w90 gl4/5 gear oil that is MT1 ratd and lists 'YELLOW METAL SAFE'

that OR a quality UTF fluid.

save the iso 68 for a bottle jack....

That gives me a good list . I will stay away from the hydraulic 68 . Hate to put something in the tractor that would ruin it. Some of the oil is expensive almost $90.00/5 gal bucket Irving THD some $45.00. walmart THD. Checked out NAPA BUT did not have . gl 1 90w .I,LL Check with them again. We can get some cold temperatures in late jan and early feb winter here. -20celcius wind chill -30 celcius . 0-10 degrees farenheit.for about 2-3wks .

with that cold weather, I'd abandon the idea of a 80-90 gear oil, and stick to a UTF fluid.

napa, walmart and farm store house brand UTF fluid should be PLENTY fine for that old tractor. I have old tractors like that, a few barns full.

none of them are running oe/dealer brand UTF oil.

sounds good ,thanks again . It can get pretty blustery sitting on the iron horse in a blizzard trying to plow the driveway . but its all good .hydraulic 68 canned.

bundle up.. and make sure you get a utf rated for cold weather 9 likely what is sold in NS IS rated for the cold.

occasionally in the deep south you will find super economy branded 'cheap' 303 oil that is a utf that is not suitable for cold weather.. but that is a utf oil that is super cheap. like 20-35$ hit a 35-50$ oil and you are generally ok.. as ok as the 75-90$ oe oils.. etc.

well got everything drained -hydrauilic filter cleaned and all put back together . nice seeing clear fluid on the check. quite a process getting out the water in pump etc. bought 11 gals of universal tractor hydraulic fluid used 2 plus gals to flush it and hand scraped the crud out of the bottom with some diesel the last thing to go back in was the filter took it out and cleaned it twice ; once before the flush and then after ;cleaned it again no holes looked original but really gummed up. took me 3 days it had a good drain. new boots on the shifters filled with some grease and a little gasket maker to slide down on fitted good . the tractor is indoors in the shack so rain may not be a problem now. ordered a filter from the uk $27 .00 canadian delivered on ebay for the 55 harry ferguson project. I can't drive to get the part for that cost.
