OK, So what do you think the thread size is. My hose on this is 1/4" for sure.

I assumed when you posted the 1/2"-20 you had verified that? You will have to measure at least the OD to be sure. Another way is to go to a local hydraulic shop and buy some cheap and simple caps and plugs in various sizes to do some testing.

Stay away from the dealers...find a good local shop or even some NAPA stores that deal in hydraulics.

Here is a simple chart I found (AN and JIC are virtually the same):

No, I didn't I just saw it on a JIC fitting for my 1/4" hose spec., I'm going to cut the fitting off tomorrow and take with me to some hyd shops after I call around and see what is available. I'm sure they will have a test board, and thanks for the idea of caps/ plugs, probably worth having various ones for emergencies. I guess I could measure the inside dia. of the female fitting to see if its 1/2" it looks close to that I wouldn't be sure on threads but if it is 1/2" the treads probably would be right, I'm guessing of course. what would be the best way to cut off fitting with out getting metal flakes inside the hose like might happen with a hacksaw? I have a pair of hand cable cutters that cut electrical cable without distorting. That's the closest to a shear that I have.

Thanks for the good chart, I'll put it in my Brandon file for future reference.

Thanks
RON

You maybe have JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) fittings??....(close metric cousin)

You're gonna need to measure carefully and get a thread pitch gauge just in case they are not JIC

two sizes of JIS fittings are 19 TPI (1/4 and 3/8)

Sorry I haven't posted my finding but here is the lowdown on the bucket hydraulics.. The fittings are JIC for sure and are for the SAE 100 R1AT 1/4" hose (Alfagomma Flexor) Hose fitting Dash 4 (1/4') .. 7/16"-20. The Cylinder fitting is Dash 6 (3/8") 9/16"-18. I got a gates 0404 fitting and adapter to 06 as they didn't have a gates 0406 field replaceable fitting in stock and an Adapter (female 3/8) x (male 1/4) FJ-MJ STRT RED (part# BRE2406-06-04) ((BRENNON))

The Gates part# for the field replaceable fitting G27170-0404 4C1T-4RF JX 723181215 But remember to get the 0406 fitting for simplicity if you can. They were just out of stock at the parts house and I wanted it fixed. The part installed very easy and so far with very little use, has performed OK.

I'll post a pic later of the parts.

The other hose on the backhoe are dash 5, 5/16" which the hyd. people say are kind of odd ball fittings. but are available. I'll research that and get some spares just in case and post part numbers when I get some

Thanks for the ideas and I hope this helps anyone who needs a quick fix. I will probably replace the crimp on fitting as I found a shop that will crimp it in place . he said he would do it if I had 2 feet of hose he could work with. I was also told this fitting fails a lot because of the U hookup to the cyl. port putting stress on the hose. If I have more trouble with it I will cut the hose back to a convenient unstressed point and make a short hose that can be replaced easily.

Thanks again

RON
