Has anyone used the see through flow meters? Although it says it will read the flow from .02 to 300 GPM, and pressure, up to 3500 psi. Just curious about the plastic see through part.

Thanks,

Hedland makes these.....but sold in varying gpm and pressure ranges......

I don't know how they'd make it so only one you can read .02 to 300 gpm's ...Oh My!:confused2:

Welcome to Hedland and Flo-tech

The plastic part is just where the visual sleeve is that moves when gpm's go up....underneath it's rugged for high pressure with a poppet that moves with flow.....

Here's a link to earlier post re: flow meters......the middle pic shows one similar to hedland.....UCC is the brand I believe.....it shows a load valve built-in on the right hand side (knurled handle rotates to increase pressure)

I have used them at service school. The're OK, but I much prefer an analog dial type like Bailey has in their catalog.

Hedland are great for the "field toolbox"....I used to have 3 of them (1997), but you will need a few to cover, with accuracy, the range from 0.5 to 100gpm... a medium size one is about 1 1/2'' and weigh about 1lbs...they can take a rough time in the bushes too....no electric battery is required either...
For more serious testing I prefer a turbine flow meter.....But that takes more $$...

Yes - we use them quite a bit. We use them with the circulating oil pump on large bearings to shut down the main motor in the case of a loss of oil flow. The can also come with a set of contacts we interlock into our motor control center.

Anyway - what's your question?

J.J.

The plastic see through part just covers the magnetic follower. The oil actually flows through an aluminum housing with a tapered venturi that has a light spring load on it. There is a magnet on the floating venteri and as flow increases or decreases the magnetic follower moves under the clear plastic and gives you the flow reading.

One problem with these is that with suden flow surges the magnetic follower does NOT move or respond quick enough so even with flow going through the meter it will read 0.

I am attaching a Hedland document that gives a very simple cut-away showing the tapered cone and the yellow represents the magnet.
