I am saving my one gallon plastic milk jugs to transport used oil and hydraulic fluid to the recycle center. I know that gas will eat some plastic up but will they be safe for oil and hydro. fluid ?

Safe.
I wouldn't fill them real full, and be careful when transporting so they don't/can't tip over.

Ditto that--- One note-- common sense prevails with putting cool fluid in there only..

Some jugs are thicker than others, so try to use the thickest you can..

Also note that milk jugs are LDPE, which deteriorates with age. If they
are more than a year or two old, they may leak, even if stored indoors.
I have also seen them fracture if you drop them (empty) from more than
a couple feet.

I love to reuse my 5-qt engine oil containers and PETE gallon containers
that you buy fruit juice in. Unfortunately those are not acceptable by
our local recycling curb pickup service.

I have 30 gallons of old hydro fluid to get rid of, but I don't want to loose my 55 gallon plastic barrel.

It may just be illegal in some States to fill Milk Jugs with oil...... If you lived close to me, I accept waste oil... I heat one garage with a waste oil burner...

What I have been using are the 5 gallon orange buckets sold by Home Depot with the sealing lids. The white 3 gallon buckets with sealing lids also sold by Home Depot just fit under my L39 for draining hydraulic fluid, engine oil, and antifreeze. I also use the large green Kitty Litter containers that have the wide opening and are sold by Costco. I've had them buried under 8 feet of snow for all winter long and after emptying them I've used them again for used engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and antifreeze.

I save some of the empty 2.5 gallon SUDT CANS to use for that .

Put it in smaller cans/jugs and take it to a place like Auto Zone.

I have been using empty milk jugs for storing used hydraulic and engine oil for decades.
