Hi yall Im having hydraulic problems with a tractor i just got it is a ih 244. I took the cap and hyd filter out started the tractor and it sucked the fluid down but there wasnt any more coming in. I have a pressure guage hooked up and there is no pressure. Anyone out there have any ideas. Thanks

Did you put the filter back in correctly? Could have a oneway check or since filter is on suction side could have an air leak. Good Luck.

the filter can go in either way but i had it out at the time and watched it go down pump seems to suck fine it just isnt refilling from tractor

It must be gravity flow to the filter housing and the tube plugged. Or you need to put the filter back and seal the housing so the suction can draw from the reservoir.

Okay so today i started at the suction tube extension that goes into tranny. It was clean all tubes clean to pump. Filter clean all new hy trans fluid and still 0 pressure. I took filter cap off and the fluid was real milky looks like it is all shook up. Put my hand over filter top and got some suction but not alot. Please help. Thanks

If it was new fluid and milky I assume it was full of air. That would most likely come from an air leak on the suction side. Somewhere between where the oil is picked up and the pump. I would be most suspicious of the seals on the filter housing and if it is using a suction tube from the top maybe it is not sealed properly. Did you let it run long enough to perge the air. Remember your pump whats to pump fluid not air and is not an efficient air pump. If it is possible can you fill the filter with oil before you put the cover on to "prime the pump". I am assuming your oil isn't milky for water that got into the sustem. Good Luck

How much suction should a 4 gpm pump have if you put your hand over a opening

This is an excerpt from Dow UCON Hydrolubes

For example, a maximum of five (5) inches of mercury inlet vacuum
is a typical target recommendation used by some pump manufacturers.

I dont think you are going to get any oil coming out with the filter off. Put in a new filter, tighten the housing if not a screw on filter and fill with oil. IF it pumped all the oil out once, it should prime and start pumping again unless you were having specific problems to start with prior to removing the filter. It could have been a stopped up filter and replacing it should have solved your problem if you dont have any air leaks on the suction line to the pump.

I know about air leaks and the sort. Im just trying to figure out if the pump is working or not. The dealer is going to buy it back but i would like to keep it but i would like to have it work
