I am needing to change the fluid in my transmission, and my front axle. The manual says they both use the same fluid, TDH500 if I remember right but I can not find this anywhere. Is this just universal transhydraulic fluid?

I just asked the same question over in the Lub/Fluids forum. The manual for my 3510 states to use TF500 fluid. I was sold 5-gallon buckets of 76 Tractor/Hydraulic fluid. The compatability list was very long, but it didn't say TF500 anywhere. SoundGuy helped me out with the following, which I hope it is okay to plagerize here, since it probably answers your question:

Is your 76 hydraulic/tractor fluid a UTF fluid.. look on it for compatibilities.. if it is equivalent to hytran, hygaurd.. NH M2c134d or JD 303 fluid.. it is a UTF fluid.

That said.. most tractors that use common sumps for hyds, tranny, and diffy use UTF ( but not all aparently! )

Different manufacturers have different names. For instance.. at work, we use FINA oil products. Thier version of UTF is TF56 standing for torque fluid 56... perhaps yours is similar.

Check it out before using it..

You are right. My original post had a typo. It is TF500 or Texaco TDH. I got those mixed up in my original post. I have not been able to find either of these or find any jugs anywhere that state they are compatible with either of these fluids. The advice given by soundguy is probably right, but before I buy 10+ gallons of the stuff for a change I want to know I am buying the right fluid. Maybe some of the dealers I see posting here could chime in?

I know exactly how you feel. Given what I put myself through finding "the right" fluid, here's what I would do were I in your shoes. I would call a few tractor or automotive shops near where I live and ask each one what they have for a "universal Tractor Hydraulic fluid". If you want to test their mettle even more, use the words "Universal Transdraulic Fluid" which is where the acronym UTF comes from. Get about three answers. I understand that WalMart carries one (I personally don't shop there, but they are everywhere). NAPA, a common parts store here in Oregon, would also have one, as will each tractor shop. Now you will know what is available in your area -- which was the main hurdle for me -- and these TBN guys can help you zero in on one.

As long as you buy a premium transmission-differential-hydraulic oil you will be fine, we usually buy from NAPA. As for your tire spacing question we sell 99.9% of all our Branson tractors with R4 tires so I can't be too much help and you are correct about the manual being confusing on this issue. Have fun Jason
