Just finished rototilling 40 acres with a NH1630, 27 HP. Sure, it took a while. My dad used to farm six quarters with a IH Model A and a two bottom plow.

Right on, Choreboy. Those of us used to 130 hp tractors _do the same thing_ - we try to get a bit more out of the machines. Try to hook up a size bigger implement. And we are stuck with the repair bills. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, just trying to tone things down a bit. There is more than just HP involved with a tractor. Traction, durability, being overbuilt. (a guy was using an Oliver 88 tractor in tractor pulls - that's a 40 hp tractor give or take, & he was putting 200+ hp out of his engine on it - to the unmodified tranny. It lasted over a year before it broke the castings of the rear end, basically broke the axles off because of all the power. Now, _that_ is a stout tractor that can handle a lot more that it was designed for.) These CUT tractors are great for what they were designed for. But they are not so overbuilt like the old iron used to be.

I think some of the warnings from me & others around here are more of a "been there, done that, hope you don't have to go through it too" type of a wake-up call than a put-down.

We all get kinda macho & think our tractor is more than what it is, whether a 225 hp or an 18 hp cut.

It's hard to make a wake-up call that gets through that kind of attitude.

Again, been there, done that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We have a 14 gpm pump that operates off the PT0 for our D40 that operates a hydraulic sickle bar mower. This setup works well, and would probably work for your application. One thing to keep in mind however is a rockhound is relatively heavy, and when it is full of rocks it probably be more than you can lift because the load center is further out than a regular bucket. You may want to consider a Harley rake or ATI preseeder, which are available to rent. The tractor versions operate off the tractors PTO and 3 point hitch and windrow the rocks while leveling. The downside is you have to pick up the windrowed rocks, which you can do fairly efficently with your loader.

This is true I can think of 4 customers of the top of my head that are using a TC40 or TC45 to bale hay with a NH 565 baler no kicker of course. This can be done but you might notice the plunger going back and forth as other dealers have mention to you. These customers also bale onto the ground they do not drag a hay trailer behind them.

Very good to know - I may want to do that one day. My father-in-law ground-baled on the property with an old Ford 2000. It used to shake alot, but it did the job. There was also discussion a few months back about a small round baler that would work with CUTs, but square bales work much better for me.

Only when we have installed front mounted brooms when it was supplied by the manufacturer of the broom. It works fine but if you are going to use the pto for something else, you have to remove the pump from the pto shaft, and either remove the whole hyd. set-up or secure the pump some how.

Hi all- I'm new here and the PTO hydraulic pump struck my interest. I was wondering if they can be hooked up to a FEL, how much trouble they are, $$ expected to pay, etc. I run a FORD 5610 w/ 7210 FEL and it is slow. (esp. bucket curling) Just looking for ways to speed things up a bit. Thanks

I think you are looking at $500-1000 for a complete pto hyd system. You end up needing the pto pump, a resevoir & hoses & a block & levers to direct oil in & out & the oil itself.

You can plumb into your tractor's resevoir, and you can use the block & levers from your loader of course, but then it's not portable and requires a bit more thought along the way.

Some pto pumps have a through shaft, so you can run pto equipment without removing the pump - but it extends the pto & can cause binding etc....

And the reservoir is not all that small. I forget the rule of thumb on reservoir sizing but I think it is something like twice the pump size in GPM. I know my PTO driven backhoe with 10GPM pump has a 20+ gallon reservoir. Too small a reservoit and the pump cavatiates and the fluid overheats.

My neighbor who helps me out-a real farmer-smiled when he saw my cute little tc40d. He was right. It ended up being about 80% of the tractor I should have bought. But at the time I wasnt yet comfortable with the larger frame machines.
I am now, cuz Ive used his. Lesson learned oh well. Although it didnt totally suit, I know he was impressed by the relative overall performance when he had to borrow mine when one of his broke down with hay still in the field. It did just fine.
