Hydraulic leak in new Ventrac 4500Y

Shame about the mess. All that oil attracts dirt. Sometimes I have had my fill of hydraulic machines!

It's just my humble opinion, but Ventrac should be paying you dealer to send their mechanic out to do that work. This repair should not be your problem and it should not be your dealer's problem. You should not need to send your tractor in to the dealer and wait for it to return. -- If this was a cross thread at the factory - Ventrac should make it right.

Yeah, we probably should have, but the problem is you've got a couple of retired guys who like to tinker with things mechanical and don't like to wait around. We diagnosed the problem, had the parts overnighted to us, and the leak is gone as of a couple hours ago. Our last project was a heavy duty commercial chipper our association owns that had a blown engine. Found a used engine on Craig s list that between it and parts cannibalized from the old engine we again have a working chipper.

However, I have written directly to Ventrac about our situation and we'll have to see what they say.

Sorry to hear of your problem, but I am glad that you were able to fix it. Also glad to hear that you have a great dealer. A great dealer is an immense asset.

Because the problem was the result of a manufacturing error, I expect that Ventrac will do what needs to be done to satisfy you.

I am happy to say that my 4500Y has had no hydraulic leaks whatsoever.

Finally playing catch-up. I did write to Ventrac and cc'd my dealer. About a week later I received a call from the head of their customer service. He profusely apologized and assured me that "everyone" had seen my letter and that some kind of change had already been made in the manufacturing process to prevent any future recurrence. I was satisfied in that the purpose of my letter was to point out a failure in their quality control process that they could probably correct. I also received an invite for a factory tour which we did take them up on.

We had already planned a month long road tour out to the Canadian Rockies with a stop on our way home to visit our oldest granddaughter who is attending OSU's Ag Technical Institute in Wooster, OH, about 15 mile from Orville where the Ventrac factory is located. Very interesting and surprised that there is less than 200 employees, including white collar. Also, they just broke ground on a new building right next to their newest building which will include the paint line, currently located at their old building.

You did well. Based upon your initial and other posts in this thread, I had checked mine and all seems to be dry and tight (knocking on wood). Was up your way week end before last Wednesday through Sunday, but the purpose for my visit kept me pretty busy and the weather was pretty lousy this time.
