New Holland 6610S
I have a New Holland 6610S tractor. While doing some dirt work yesterday I noticed a leak where the front end loader hydraulic hose attaches to the outlet. It doesn't leak with the lever in the off position. When the lever is in the on position there is a small but steady stream of fluid leaking out. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to fix this? Thanks.

If it is a quick-attach hydraulic fitting, you probably need to replace the o-ring. Your NH dealer's parts people should be able to cross-reference the part and give you the correct o-ring. Probably a couple of $ at most and an easy fix.

Thanks,

How does that part come out of the tractor? Do you use a spanner wrench?

I'm starting to think this fitting may not be a quick-connect fiitting. Can you take a picture and post it? If it is a quick-connect for sure, you just disconnect the fitting and then use a jeweler's screwdriver or pick to carefully remove the o-ring from inside the female fitting. The fitting below is a quick-connect. The o-ring I'm talking about would be inside the female fitting. If your fitting is not similar, please disregard my suggestion. I'm just making an assumption because most modern tractor loaders use quick-connects to attach the loader hydraulics.

This is what the fitting looks like.

So there is an o-ring inside this part that needs to be replaced?

Yes, there is a black rubber o-ring and a white teflon backing ring. I can see them in the top fitting in your picture. Normally the teflon ring is fine, but the o-ring gets pinched and nicked by the male adapter as it slides into the fitting. I'm tempted to give you the part number, but I don't know for sure what size fittings you have. If you remove an o-ring, probably any place that sells o-rings can match it up if you can't get to your NH dealer. You need to have an exact match. If it's too fat or slightly different diameter, it won't work.

I just replaced an o-ring in one of mine this last year and keep a spare handy for the next time I need one.
