Mahindra 3016
I have searched quite a bit for ideas on this but not having much luck. New member, first post, and thank you in advance for the help.

I have a 2016 Mahindra 3016 HST with a Mitsubishi 3-cyl 1.3L diesel. I haven't used it in probably a year. The engine was very slow to crank and it's not a battery thing, bad ground, etc. Fast forward, I pulled the glow plugs and the engine turns over at the normal speed. I have the fuel shut off so nothing else should be going in there. If I put any of the three glow plugs back in, it slows it down on that stroke. I've blown the cylinders out with compressed air, cycled it with the starter to blow out anything, and let it sit for a day or two with those plugs out.......it still is still using everything the starter has to turn over the engine if any of the glow plugs are in.

What am I missing here? How can I clean out whatever is in these cylinders??

This got me thinking......could it be something blocking the exhaust??

Thanks!

You dismiss the battery very quickly. Why do you think it's not a battery thing? That's the first thing I'd suspect. The tractor is five years old and has been sitting for a year. Put a charge on the battery. After charging have it load tested. Clean the terminals thoroughly. Clean the connectors on the cables thoroughly. Tighten everything securely. If you can move a connector it's not secure. Follow the ground lead to the frame. Clean and tighten securely. If the engine still rotates slowly you may wish to look at the starter.

It's not the battery because I took the battery out and I'm jumping it off my truck. Sorry, should have stated that was why I dismissed it.

The starter could be an issue I suppose. Its positive lead runs straight to the battery, which I am jumpered to; then I have the negative jumper on the engine block.

How big are your jumper cables? Without a battery, if I understood you correctly, you would need some serious cables to get enough power to start a Diesel. Especially going through the battery cables.

Excellent point.....I was going to get a new battery for it today or tomorrow anyway, so I'll report back once I get that installed.

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

Success! You were all right, it was the battery (or lack thereof). It must have had some corrosion or a bad ground that I inadvertently fixed in my diagnosing, because when I swapped the battery early on, it did not solve the problem. And then yes, the jumper cables were too small for jumping it. So many thanks for breaking my fixation.....I'm glad I didn't have a bigger problem and now I get to to do some much needed driveway grading this weekend!
