My Mahindra 5035 loses quite a bit of hydraulic fluid(1/2 gal per month) with no visible leaks that I can find. Anyone else have this problem? Where should I look for the fluid loss?

I would think with that much fluid disappearing there should be visible fluid somewhere.

There is an audible hiss where bucket control is left in the rotating bucket up position and the front end loader is all the way rotated up. I still don't see the a leak. Is there some sort of bypass?

I don’t know that model but if it has a separate trans and hydraulic reservoir it could be going there. Or it’s somehow leaking past the pump into the crankcase.

You are correct- it’s hard to lose that much fluid and not know where it’s going. How many times have you checked it? How many times have you had to add fluid?

The hiss is the relief valve preventing you from damaging the hydraulic system.

Start checking the crankcase oil level often. If it is going up, then your pump is leaking around its drive end.

An engine will not like it running on hydraulic oil. Bearing damage $$$$

Good to know it is a relief valve which is what I assumed. Does that drain fluid? If so where does it go? Could that cause the fluid loss if the control lever sticks in the rotate up position?

Part of my last post disappeared.

Trans and hydraulics run on same reservoir.

Crankcase oil level is stable.

control lever is stuck in the up position, first the reli
The relief valve send fluid directly back into the reservoir.

To answer your question re sticking control, your hydraulic system is an "Open Center," one. In general, only one function can work at a time. If a control lever is stuck in the up position, first the relief valve in the FEL valve will be bleeding fluid back into the reservoir. Second, because your system in open center, other hydraulic functions will work slowly and without much force.

Just a suggestion. You need to be checking fluid levels with the tractor on level ground, off, and with all implements and FEL lowered to the ground.

Having your tractor on something clean and dry, cardboard an old sheet, and then exercising all hydraulic functions will help you identify if there is a small leak somewhere. A drip over days can amount to a measurable amount of fluid.
