That motor is using 1hp. If that is enough depends on what you want to do with it.

maybe a small bushhog

If you wouldn't use a 1hp gas motor there is no way a 1hp hydraulic motor is going to work --- unless you want to turn it very sloooowwww.

Can you put a bigger pump on it?

Thanks

Yes, you can put a bigger pump on it, It would depend on your available HP. Say your tractor has 15 HP. Then a pump, pumping 3 GPM at 3000 psi would take 6 HP to run it. If you used a hydraulic motor, then that would give you about 5.1 HP with an 85 % efficiency. You could run a log splitter, or a small 36 in hyd bush hog, or whatever. If you try and run something larger, it will run slow, maybe build up to much heat.

What ever HP is left over from operating the tractor normally, is what you have to work with.

What is your tractor HP?

I just depends. Since you only have 18 HP, then at rest, doing nothing but running A PTO pump at 540 rpm, you could run a pump as big as 5.1 cu-in, pumping 12 GPM, at 2250 psi. Now if you are driving the tractor and doing some kind of work, that will take up some HP, so you might estimate that about half, or a third of the HP would go to turning a pump. So, using 9 Hp, you could run a 2.6 cu-in pump, pumping 6 GPM ,at 2250 psi. These PTO pumps run about $450 to $500. You could run a hydraulic pump off the fan belt for about $450. If you are thinking loader, that would not take much to operate . If you are thinking BH, then you could go with the max. A lot of the tow behind BH's, or home made, only use a 5 hp to 8 hp engine to run the hydraulic system. It all depends on weight, power, and speed of operation. The project is doable, just depends how much you want to put into it. Besides the pump, you have the valves, hoses, relief valves, etc.

i have had several powerkings still have one now. that would be asking alot
of the tractor in my opinion. powerking made a sickle bar mower for these
that would be a better option in my opinion obviously not a bushhog. be
carefull with that 18hp kohler it was their first attempt at a overhead valve
engine and not a very good one. make shure and clean around the head
diligently as it will cake over and destroy the head, they can no longer be found except occasional used on ebay etc. theres a powerking site on
yahoo that has a wealth of information. one guys comment on the 18
hp engine theres two kind of people who own them one that has had troubles
and ones who are going to have trouble. i had one and can now agree with
his words of wisdom.
