Does anyone have a good source for empty 55 gallon drums and new hydraulic fluid for my excavator. I would rather do it myself instead of paying an overpriced dealer to come and do it.

I just talked to an oil distributor to get an empty used oild drum. He had them, but would not sell or give it to me as he said they are numbered and if it ends up on the side of the road 20 years from now - he gets nailed for the haz mat clean up.

What I do is just drain it in 5 gal, pails, then take it to the auto parts store for recycling.

My local John Deere dealer has given me several 55 gallon drums over the years. They get antifreeze for loading tractor tires in the barrels and have no problem parting with them. They won't part with the oil or hydro fluid drums because of the hazmat laws, though.

I have an autodealership that will take the oil for their furnace, I just need to get it there. Thanks.

It's a shame your not close to me, I have about 50-60 55 gallon drums you would be more than welcome to have. My pile is getting rather large.

What kind of hydraulic oil? Regular hydraulic oil, UTF or something that meets TO-4 / C-4 spec? Texas Refinery Corp. Specialty Lubricants and Greases TRC
