I checked the dipstick beside the shifter on the YM1700 and it is about 3/4 inch above the XXXXX on the stick. Could this be the cause? It was recently changed and I think too much was refilled causing the leaking. Also my RRear axle seal drips a couple of drops at night after using.

Should the level be in between the XXXXX on the flat spot? Is there a drain plug besides pulling the filter out?

thanks.

Have you checked the shifter boot for cracks , Tight seal, etc, The oil fill should be within the x's. Top x being full

Yes, it should be between those lines. I'm not sure if 3/4" would make it leak or not though. If you drain a little out & it still leaks- check your breather vent. A plugged breather is a very common cause of shifter boot leaks. It is #8 here--

yea i had lots of pressure coming out of my dipstick on transmission. I used to keep it kind of loose unitill i found out about the breather problems. I took mine off and it was totaly clogged. now no more pressure coming out of the dip stick.

I would check the transmission vent. I recently bought a Yanmar YM1500. After tilling my large garden, I found fluid leaking around the gear shift boot and the PTO seal. I read a post from Aaron about the transmission vent. Checked mine and it was broken and bent closed. Went to Tullahoma Tractor (where I bought the YM1500) and got a new vent tube. Installed the new vent tube. Problem disappeared.

I checked the vent tube under the seat and it is clear. I remove it and it has no obstruction. Is there another vent that I am missing? Maybe one on the tranny?

The vent I was referring to is the curved tube under the seat.

I don't think so. Mine had a dirt dabber nest in it one time and mine started leaking out of the boot. I cleaned that out with a piece of wire and it stopped leaking. You may just have a bad boot.
