hydraulic oil for fuel

The next question I would have is how many metal particles are in the hydraulic fluid? Not many you say? Then why did you change it? A lot you say? Then you want to run that thru your injection pump and injectors?... eh.. I don't think this running your used oils thru your diesel engine is a particularly good idea. Just my opinion, it is your tractor.

You think diesel is a lot cleaner than hydro oil?
Don't you have a filter between your fuel tank and your injector pump? I know I do.

You think diesel is a lot cleaner than hydro oil? Yes I think that diesel is considerably cleaner than used hydraulic oil full of metal.
Don't you have a filter between your fuel tank and your injector pump? I know I do.
Sure do, but I don't want to put metal particles in in my fuel and hope the paper fuel filter catches it all. I would hope my fuel is relatively clean when it comes out of the pump.

You all can do what ever you like with your used hydraulic oil, I take mine to the recycling center. I think it would probably be fine for an oil stove, but I don't have one. But I am not going to put a drop of it in my fuel tank. The first question is why in the heck would you want to? To try to save a few buck's. I am not going to risk it.

And you can do what you'd like as well, KOua...... If I had the space, tanks, pump & filter hardware, source of used hydro oil, I would not be afraid to blend the hydro oil into my diesel fuel. I'd want to allow the fluid to set for a week or so in a primary tank, then plumb it into a second tank. The primary tank decanting process will allow any large particles and moisture to settle to the bottom of the tank. Then I'd remove fluid from the top section of the primary tank into a secondary tank. From there it would pass through a quality filter and I'd meter it into my diesel fuel tank. I doubt I'd go try for much over 25% hydro oil / 75% diesel.

Why do it? By doing so Gervias & I don't have to haul it or pay someone else to haul it away and it will reduce our fuel costs by recycling the old hydro oil into fuel usage.... Makes good sense to me!
