Tractor - Kubota L345DT Loader

I just changed my transmission fluid and think I made a mistake. The manual says 80w gear oil, but when I was at the Farm and Feed they told me I should use Hydraulic oil. When I started the tractor back up after the fluid change the 3 point lift does not move? I assume this is powered by the pressure from the oil pump? Have I damaged something because of the wrong fluid, or do I need to bleed this system somehow?

I am assuming that like most tractors your tranny is the reservoir for the rest of the hydraulics as well.

I use general purpose hydraulic oil in my transmission case (I've got a gear machine).

There should be no need to bleed as the system should self vent.

Hope you put in enough fluid??

I'd call Kubota or check your manual and be sure you are using the correct oil. In theory almost any kind of oil (in now way promoting) should make hydraulics work. I'm thinking maybe you did not fill enough? Does your loader work?

Good luck,
Joel

I filled it up to the top of the fill cap, as the manual states.
My loader hydraulics are working, but they use a separate pump and receiver powered off the front of the engine.
Maybe the pump has gone out? Is there an easy way to check this?

maybe it's just me...
But when I read the title I had flashbacks to a 3 stooges episode where they were plumbers..

the water didn't work because there were wires in the pipe...
so they reworked it and hooked the conduit up to the water lines after pulling all the wires out of course...

I guess I thought this since I have an HST and use hydro fluid in the tranny..

Ok-- back on topic..
have you checked the control value for the speed of the up down movement on the 3PH?

later,
J

Some tractors have a seperate sump for hydrolics and trans ,[they use gear oil in trans and aw32 in hydro],some use universal in common for both hydro and trans.

Now if your owners manual says to use 80-90 gear oil,why would you listen to dummies at a box store?

Good news is,you,[by the sound of it] put universal where it called for gear oil,no big deal, better than putting gear oil in where it called for universal.

Do what your owners manual says to do.

What kinda tractor you got?

"Now if your owners manual says to use 80-90 gear oil,why would you listen to dummies at a box store?"

No so much a big box store as - farm and feed store - the fellow seemed experienced with tractors (more than me), he has an old Ford Gear Tractor himself. He said that the when my tractor was made (1980 ish) that there was gear oil and hydraulic fluid. He said that hydraulic oil for transmissions hadn't been developed yet and since my tractor uses the same fill for transmission, differential, and 3 point hydraulics, the hydraulic oil was the best modern choice.

So that's why I didn't follow the manual.

My Tractor is a Kubota L345DT with L1720 loader ( I have a separate pump and reservoir for the loader hydraulics).

Also just found this article from Yesterdays Tractor Magazine - it seems to support what the box store dummy said.

The speed control for the 3 point seems to do nothing...

Just got a call back form the local dealer - he verified using that they use hydraulic oil. Thanks for everybody's help.:)

Multi-purpose hydraulic oil existed way before the 80's.

I really hope you mean a transdraulic or UTF oil.. and not a plain AW-32 or similar straight hyd oil.

straight hyd oils are not designed for the final drives.. etc.

hopefully the guy at the feed store gave you UTF fluid.
