I have a JD 2320 that has about 425 hrs on it.. over the last 50 hours or so it drips/leaks hydraulic oil around the bolts on the rear end.. it appears that it is coming from around these bolts and not from a seam.

I have been running Amsoil fluid since the 50 hour change.. Last fluid change was at 250 hrs.

I just realized i am due for a hydraulic fluid service at 450 hours..

Could my leaks be that the fluid is getting thinner as it aged?

It doesnt leak enough to warrant splitting the tractor, i put in about 1 cup of fluid every yr or so to top it off..

just wondering..

most likely just "creep" as the oil is working around the threads of the bolt and making its way out.
There are two ways to fix it, either take the bolts out one at a time, clean and dry them off and apply some BLUE RECTOR SEAL to the threads and install, or you can purchase seal washers from your local Caterpillar dealer and install on the bolts.

The sealing washers: are they metal with a rubber insert on the middle or metal with a rubber seal on back of the washer? I'm seeing both kinds

Thanks

The CATERPILLAR ones are metal with rubber in the middle. Put a flat washer on the bolt, then the sealing washer.
The Rector Seal I typically use is Tru-Blu
RectorSeal

Google Dowty Seal and see if that is what you need. I believe Dowty was bought by someone else but the design lives on with Dowty becoming the generic term for that type of seal. Cat uses them on some products.
