Getting ready to do some maintenance on my bucket truck. Altec recommends an ISO 22, con conductive hydraulic oil. Looking at NAPA and Tractor Supply's websites it doesn't appear that they carry anything like that. It looks like I'll need around 7 gallons. Been poking around online but not having much luck so far. Does anyone know of some places to find this stuff?
I had really look around hard to cross reference Altec's filter number, but finally found a site and was able to cross it to a Donaldson number. Once I had that I crossed to NAPA and a few others so that part is taken care of.
So far I'm looking at $130 plus shipping from Amsoil, and I don't think it's non conductive oil. Schaeffer looks to be about $180 + and that appears to be non conductive.
I probably should have posted this in the Oils & Lubricants area, but by the time it occurred to me it was too late. :duh:

And I thought UTF was expensive. Sounds like a good option. Did not know about the non conductive aspect.

I wasn't aware of the non conductive aspect either until I spoke to someone at Altec this morning. Two 5 gallon buckets will run me a little over $42 total shipping on top of the $66.50 for each bucket.
Looked at synthetic but Amsoil was $130 per bucket plus shipping and Schaeffer was $170 plus.
Had a heck of a time crossing the filter numbers but finally found this site: filters catalog, filter cross reference, fuel filter, oil filter, diesel fuel filter, fuel filter cross reference They appear to be out of this country, but a heck of a reference for crossing numbers nonetheless.
The site allowed me to find Altec in a pull down menu. From there it showed my Altec filter number and crossed it to a Donaldson number and I was off to the races. I can now grab one at the NAPA down the road.

do you have any local oil suppliers? It might help you save on the shipping. Altec is not the only boom manufacturer, check with all of local dealers for manlifts and bucket trucks, they should have something in stock I would think. Maybe even like palfinger or something. I am a little confused why they recommend non-conductive oil, have they taken other measures to electrically isolate you from anything?

Good question Mike. It clearly states in the operator's manual that "this device is not insulated and carries no dielectric rating."
Maybe it's just Altec covering themselves. Maybe it's to protect things in the hydraulic system from getting fried if there is any accidental contact. The hydraulics do run off of an electric motor with it's own batteries separate from the truck engine starting batteries. Not sure, I'm just throwing a couple of guesses out there.
