Can straight #10 oil be mixed with hydraulic oil to use in a hydraulic system?

What hydraulic system?
I once had a hydraulic system with a geroler motor, that would not work with hydraulic oil, it had to be 30w or 40w motor oil.

I don't know about mixing but I know fellas that use 10/30 motor oil in their backhoe hydraulics their theory was they worked smoother. I've never tried it.
