I'm currently looking at buying a new machine and am curious about how manufacturers literature describe hydraulic flow available. Some will list hydraulic flow (power?) available to both implements (rear remotes?) and to the power steering. While others will list total hydraulic power available, period. How many hydro pumps are typically on a 50hp machine? When there's one hydraulic pump on the machine, is all the power output by that pump available to run implements or will some be siphoned off to run the power steering? If there's one pump that's split between the PS and a rear remote, can they be ganged to drive a higher hydro-flow needing implement? Finally, how many remotes would I need (now and in the future) to run a grapple or snow blower up front and/or hydro-actuated rear-blade, box blade with scarifiers, etc. for the rear?

Hydraulics, and how they're plumbed in tractors, are a black art to me, so nothing said will be too basic. More questions loom, such as the different types of pumps or connections or what does spool or SCV or flat-face mean? Boy, I wish there was a definitive book. Thanks.

if you have one pump and many uses.. like ps and remotes, and 3pt.. etc.. it's simply a use issue.

in most cses, the ps is a priority flow and gets it's oil first. from there.. your remote usually is next in line.. 3pt volume is so limited as to not be in the equation.. so thus.. you got ps and remotes.. and they, between the 2 get as much flow as they need within the capacity of the pump.. when ps ain't doing anything.. the remote could use all the oil.. so thus no need to 'gang anything.

some people get front and rear remotes. all depends on how deep your pockets are.. in the end.. you got whatever flow your pump(s) can make.. and unless you add aux pumps.. like front crank, side aux engine. or rear pto in the case of a live pto.. then even if you got 8 remotes.. you got x flow that they all can dip into.. etc.

So, say you have a machine that puts out 10gpm total and you're running a snowblower that requires 10gpm, will your SB "feel" the hit whenever you do something that that needs juice, like turning or lifting the 3PH?,

you got x oil, and yyy places for it to go. ps gets it first usually... you do the math.

keep in mind that ps and 3pt are -real- low consumers...
