I have a model 70 compact tractor, with a 770 front loader attached. It has a factory standard fourway hydraulic valve that operates the loader. When I push the lever down to lower to bucket, all I get is down, as there is no detent for a "float" position. Many people have told me that I should have "float" capibility, but no one yet has found it. Is this rig supposed to have float? if it does, is there some lock out, or modification I need to do in order to make it work?

diverrick, it should be there. Your 770 tractor is much like my 790. Without bending anything, try pushing harder. If it still won't go maybe something is stuck. I don't think there is a float lockout but not absolutely sure. Maybe it's going into float but the detent isn't keeping it there?

Hope this helps /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You should feel it click forward into the float position.

I went through that with my 2210. A sharp, quick action to the front ought to do the trick.
Mine was stiff for quite a while. After all you don't want to be able to float too easily either.

I's yours a factory system or does it have an aftermarket valve on it to have saved money that might not have the float?

It is a factory four way, and has no click at all when pushe to the down posistion. Front loader just continues lifting the front end up off of the ground. I have pushed as hard as I think would be reasonable, with out breaking it, and nothing happens

On my 4100 there are some little tabs that can be flipped into or out of the SCV linkage. I think that they can be used to lock-out the float function and/or the dump re-circ function if you don't want to accidentally engage it. Maybe your tractor has the same setup and the lock-out is engaged?

Sorry about the time lag, but I have been busy.
I looked at the control valve, and I can see a Mule shoe shaped cresent around one side of the spool shaft. I cannot reach it to try repositioning it, but it doesn't look like it is blocking the linkage in any way. I also read elsewhere on thes BB about popping the handle forward. I tried that and the lever that you push just started to bend. I stopped short of bending it though.

Years ago, I used to run and old industrial 2 W.D. Ford with a front loader. In order to get float on the FL you had to push the lever all the way forward and pull it to the side.
Could be another thing to try?

Good luck,

DT
