I have a M9540 and it appears that I need to adjust the hydraulic shuttle cables, also I have been told to remove the lower boots on the cables. Has anyone dealt with these issues and any advise would be welcomed.

I have a M8200 cab tractor with hydraulic shuttle shift. It has approx 340 hrs and last week I asked the chief mechanic at the K dealer about the clutch adjustment. He stated it should have about 3/4 inch play and if adjustment is necessary to adjust the cable (or turnbuckle) under the dash. Mine has about 3/4 inch play so I didn't need to adjust.

Are you certain your clutch needs adjusted?

I have about the same hours on this tractor. The clutch adjustment is fine. What is giving me problems is the forward/reverse shuttle. Basically it is not moving the levers far enough into position. Tractor hesitates before engaging. More so in the higher gears. I looked at it yesterday and it appears that you have to remove the floor platform to even get at the adjustment. I also found out that if there is a boot on the lower end of the cable it needs to be removed and left off. Moisture accumulates and in frigid weather you cant shift until this melts. Time for it to go to the dealer. I bought it at Barlow's which is 100 miles away. I'm going to see if the local guy wants my business. I hear that they have had a change in attitude in the last couple of years.

As coincidence would have it I bought my M8540 at Barlows, also 100 miles away. In January they picked up my tractor, serviced it, and then brought it back.

One of the service items was a sticky hydraulic shuttle and shuttle adjustment. My shuttle shift had become stiff, and on a couple of occasions when I moved the shuttle to the reverse position the tractor stayed in neutral, I had to cycle the shuttle a second time for it to engage.

Barlow's found that the shuttle cable had corrosion and it was replaced with a new one. My shuttle is now silky smooth and properly adjusted. Fortunately, this work was covered under warranty. I did pay a reasonable pickup and delivery fee.

Talked to my dealer today. They did remove the bottom boots from the cables and lubed them. Otherwise there are no issues with the tractor, only with the operator :) Seems that my habit of clutching during direction changes is confusing the tractor and causing the delays in movement. After 40 plus years of operating all kinds of stuff I need to learn a new method. I'm still wondering about clutching when braking or does just letting off of the pedal suffice? I'm picking it up tomorrow and can't wait to experiment.
