I was looking at this picture and noticed what appears to be some kind of hydraulic hose protectors :

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...ounting-chainsaw-polesaw-tractor-gun_rack.jpg

What and how are these hose sleeves made and installed ??

Is the intention to protect the hose; or, is it to protect the operators face from a hose eruption ??

The first day I used my tractor, one of the forward hoses on the loader blew a big hole while picking up a scoop of rock.

Thankfully, it was way up front and not one of those right by my head.

Since, I have been wearing a full face shield when actually using the loader.

My intentions are to build a "house" of aluminum tread-plate that will shield those hoses nearest me.

Please explain about the hose-sleeves in the picture.

Thanks.

They are a heavy fabric type material. You buy them seperately, remove 1 end of your hyd hose and slip them on and secure with zip strips or clamps. They protect both you and the hose.

waytecwire.com also sells the sleeves.

I bought mine from my dealer. It is bulk material on a roll that comes in various sizes.

DHH also sells it by the foot. There is the sleeve that slides on, and also the spiral wrap that can be installed without removing one end of the hose.

I spent the evening re-working the mess of hoses that connect to the loader-controls, the closest ones to my eye-balls.

It sure was fixed "farmer style", which around my neck of the woods sure ain't a compliment.

The shortest pair of hoses were where the longest pair should have been.

Then, instead of investing in some elbows and extension nipples, whoever had just kinked the hoses and poked them straight down into the control ports, leaving those shortest two hoses in quite a strain, let alone being kinked to make the 90* bend.

I drew me a map; then, I removed all four hoses, cleaned them up, and measured them for future reference.

I scratched around amongst my pipe fittings to see what I had to help the situation.

I screwed 3-inch extension-nipples into the two aft ports and screwed 90* elbows onto those, orienting them toward the tubing on the loader.

I screwed close-nipples and 90* elbows into the two fore ports; I could have used street-ells, but I used what I had at hand.

Then, I swapped positions with the hoses, putting the shorter ones at the fore and the longer ones aft.

Now for the Sleeves :

Lacking fancy store-bought sleeving, I cut lengths from old bicycle tubes; lacking money, the bicycle tubes better fit my budget for this project.

I slid the bicycle-tube sleeves over the hoses and connected the remaining ends of the hoses to their proper places.

I zip-tied each end of the sleeves snugly in the grooves where the fittings joined.

My sleeves don't look hardly as fancy as the store-bought ones, but they may contain a shower of fluid, should another hose rupture.

Also, I figure the sleeves should protect the hoses from the sun.:)

After re-working this plumbing, instead of barely reaching and being in a kink, the next hoses can be six-inches shorter and still be fine.

Why do all of your posts start with>>>>>>>>>>>?

I sure hope all the fitting you scrounged are regular iron pipe fittings? They are rated at 150 PSI and can explode when pressures reach near 3000 PSI as they often due in hydraulic systems. And I don't think bicycle inner tube is going to do much for hot hydraulic fluid under pressure and will probably quickly degrade in the sun.

Sorry for all the bad news.

They don't.

When it's a question I am asking, the thread titles may start >>>> and then ????

Am I doing something un-acceptable ??

I apologize if it offends you.

I only use first class fittings when working on hydraulics. I buy all my stuff from Discount Hydraulic Hose .com. and always lay up a supply of extra odds and ends; they are cheaper than plain old plumbing stuff from the local hardware; besides, the tubes that the American manufacturer ran down the length of the loader frame and across the front are plain old 3/8 black-iron pipe with plain old house-hold plumbing fittings; I figure what I did is stouter than what they did way back in 1972 and now 37-yrs old.

And I don't think bicycle inner tube is going to do much for hot hydraulic fluid under pressure and will probably quickly degrade in the sun.

I figure if a hose springs a leak, the tube will deflect the fluid and maybe prevent it from spraying me in the face; it will have to be better than the nothing that I had before; I work hard for $160/week and have to do as limited assets allow; I don't owe anyone a cent and have never had a credit-card and never will.

Sorry for all the bad news.

Really.
