i had an 01' NH TC29D and when the temps. dropped below 30 degrees it would develop a squealing noise from the transmission when the machine was cold.i always let it warm up good before using it but this squeal would persist for an hour or so of operation or until the trans fluid was good an hot.the dealer put a new trans in it to correct the problem but that did'nt fix the problem.it seemed like a restriction in the suction side but they argued that saying that was'nt the problem. they argued me right out of warranty and i finally sold the tractor out of fear and bought a new deere.i was really upset with NH for their lack of support on the issue.
has anyone else experienced this condition ?i took a hard beating on that machine when i sold it and it only had 200 hrs on it and looked brand new.i will never buy another NH tractor due to the way they treated me and my problem. it did'nt stop with the dealer but ended with one of the companies' reps who would'nt address the problem either and said the transmissions on those tractors were bulletproof.they did offer to change the type of fluid in the trans at my expense while it was still under warranty thinking it would correct the problem.well, for what i paid for the machine i did'nt think that was acceptable and therefore i ride on green and the only regret i have is that i did'nt buy green in the first place.i have lots more power and use half the fuel i was using before to do the same job.i have 75 hrs. on my 4410 now and have'nt had one problem with it. it's true though, nothing runs like a deere. i liked my NH,i just did'nt like the problems i had with it and the lack of support i got from the dealer and the company.

It sounds like they were trying to help when they put a new transmission in it. A new transmission is not cheap even if they are the manufacturer.

Sorry for your bad experience, but sounds like they were attempting to fix the problem.

The cost of the different trans fluid was probably a lot less than you lost on the tractor when you sold it.

While it may not seem fair, we sometimes have to be willing to go the extra mile when the other party is trying to help us with a problem. I might have told them that I would pay for the different fluid IF it fixed the problem but that it would be on them if it DIDN'T fix it.

Wow I'm really sorry that you had a problem with your New Holland, and even sorrier that you took a beating just to rid yourself of it.

When it's extremely cold our TC-40D sings just a bit until it warms up, then it hums when it's time to get down to business. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dealers, well they can be good, bad, and ugly in any color for tractor service, so I hope you got a good one this time around, you deserve it.

I have a TC55DA with 20 hrs on it and I have the same squeel. Just a week ago, I came to find out that the hydraulic didn't have the right amount of hydraulic oil in there. I dumped 6.5l of 134 oil in there (to the top of the mark on the dipstic) and the squeal is now to a mininum. When the oil warms up it gets thinner so no squeal. I would think with thinner hydraulic oil the squeal sould be gone when cold and I am going to try that after the first 300hrs. I guess your dealer however tried to fix the problem at least. On the other hand I would of tried that thinner oil first before I take a beating. Was your decition there... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had the same problem of squealing in cold weather. Mine's a 2001 TC-29, maual transmission. The dealer was very familiar with the problem and the solution is to sock the grease to the drive shaft between the transmission and the front axle. Really have to pump it full. Ever since, I've had no noise at all, even at 10 below zero. Don't ask why I'm foolish enough to be out on the machine at that temperature.

Can you explain that a little better? With the correct amount of hydraulic oil now in the system, the speal is under 2 minutes by -10C.

Didn't seem to have anything to do with the oil in the transmission or front axle. My TC-29 is 4WD.
There is a grease fitting on the shaft leading to the front axle. I pumped it full (and then some) with a grease gun and the squeal went away when the ambient temp dropped.. We're talking putting in grease rather than hydraulic fluid or gear oil.I don't know if some grease was able to migrate into the transmission or front axle. I doubt it since there would be seals on both ends of the driveshaft.

Remembering back a couple of years ago, I had the same problem and the same fix. Had always greased the zerk, but not enough, took a couple of weeks to located the sound of the squeal, sounds like the transmission, but it is not. Had to have my son drive the tractor as I stood beside and listened. Believe it took over a half tube of grease.
