I am relatively new to the hydraulic world and am slowly collecting the correct skillset and tools required for the job.
Question is, I received my adjustable flow diverter and I do not have an allen wrench large enough to remove the plugs.
I tried a bolt head and vice grips....no luck. May have to weld the bolt to a piece of steel. An I on the right track or am I overlooking the
obvious?
Thanks in advance. (tools...pressure gauge and two 24" monkey wrenches for cylinders)

The obvious would be to buy the correct size allen wrench.

What I have done is use a bolt and double nut. If you are young enough to not know "double nut", screw on a nut far enough to screw the second nut flush with the end of the bolt, take two wenches and back the first nut against the second nut as tight as possible.

Now you put the wrench on the first nut to remove the plug and on the second nut to tighten the plug.

I bought a couple of those 3/8 drive allen and torx sockets. They were not expensive (on sale at the time) and I don't use them much, but when you need them, they are nice to have.

My question is why are the shipping plugs that tight? Are you sure that you are not trying to remove plugs that you shouldn't be.

Good question, shipping plugs are usually plastic.

Can you post a picture or link to the diverter?

It's probably due to the same 'factory trained 300lb. gorilla' that attaches the knurled "adjustable" end on a grease gun.

That bugger takes 2 vise-grips and a hammer to initially loosen!

How about a picture of the ports in question?

Did you call Surplus about the problem?

You are turning left to loosen, correct.

Request another valve if you can't budge the screws
