2010 John Deere 2520; 2012 Kubota L5740 HSTC; 2012 Kubota M7040 HDC; 2012 John Deere 4720 Cab (SOLD); Cat 247B Multi Terrain Loader
I just picked up a new (leftover) 2012 Kubtoa M7040 HDC tractor this past week and did my first food plot job with it yesterday. I had been pulling my Kasco Eco Drill with my 2012 L5740 but it required having the loader attached with a heavy CAT loader bucket to ballast the weight...the drill is extended to accomodate three seed boxes and weighs about 2000 lbs. Wow...the 7040 handled that implement with ease with 800 lbs. of suitcase weights and 400 lbs. of ballast in the front tires. I pulled that drill up the side of a mountain in dead, wet grass and hardly ever spun a tire. I continue to be impressed with Kubota products!

I switched out the standard top link on the 7040 with the hydraulic top link from my 5740 for this job since I didn't have time to get one for the new tractor yet. It worked but the travel is actually too long. What I also noticed was the response was not as crisp and strong at idle speed as it is on my 5740. I had to increase the engine RPM speed to get the rear remote hydraulics to respond with any authority. I'm not familiar with this machine yet so I haven't figured out why it wouldn't be as responsive as the 5740. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Also, I am curious if there are any potential conflicts with a hydraulic top link and the draft sensing mechanism on the 7040's three point hitch? It doesn't appear that Kubota offers their Top n Tilt kit for this tractor and I'm wondering if there is a reason for that.

My dealer didn't install a Kubota T&T when I ordered it on my new M7040. Instead, the dealer installed a Gearmore and plumbed it into the Kubota OEM controls. Not exactly sure why.

But to your question, the top link seems to work in a reasonable manner. It does not shoot out or suck in but travels at a reasonable pace to allow fine adjustments. Your issue may have to do with the diameter of the cylinder. Mine is 3" in diameter to deal with the hydraulic system pressure. Your L5740 may have a different diameter cylinder and react differently on the M7040. My neighbor's L5240 has a smaller top link cylinder.

The hydraulic top link makes no difference in the operation of the draft control.

The reason that they don't offer the "T&T" sets for it is that they only offer "T&T" sets for the Grand Ls and the MX tractors. I'm sure that the MXs because they are basicly the same as the Grand Ls. No problem using the draft system and the Larger Grand Ls top link is to long as you have found out.

Contact me and I can get you squared away with what you need. Best to look at this link and get me that dimension and we can go from there. Might as well build you what you need. ;)

Brian, you might not recall this but I tried to buy the top link for the L5740 from you a few weeks ago. The issue was that you are too successful...you couldn't get it to me for 8 weeks due to a backlog and I needed it yesterday. That's how I ended up with the Kubota T&T kit. The dealer had if for me in 5 days and trust me, I've used the heck out of it the past month. Let me know if you're starting to see daylight in your schedule and I'll call you about this tractor. Thanks!
