TBN has been a tremendous help in my hunt for my first tractor purchase. Many thanks.

I plan to buy new, and want to ensure that I purchase enough hydro the first time around. I'm a card carrying idiot, and not very bright, so be patient.:D

I plan to purchase a 40 HP tractor w/FEL, 4WD, Hydrostatic Trans. Dragging 6foot bush hog, disc, box blade, broadcast spreader. Handling round bales with spear, and very possibly a full size grapple for the bucket (if you have ever cleaned up after a major hurricane, you understand the value of a good grapple:thumbsup:).

So - what sort of rear remotes do I need? There are several types, what are the differences? Can I get the fluid power I need from the factory, or am I going to have to do some add-ons (pump, valving, etc.)?

I haven't settled on a color yet, but it will very likely be one green, orange, or blue (if this matters for the hydraulics discussion).

Thanks,

Big Al

Every manufacturer offers rear remotes as options, and every one has different cost's. Pick a tractor-then get as may as you can when you order it.

These attachments do not of themselves require hydraulics:

- bush hog
- box blade
- broadcast spreader
- Handling round bales with spear

A bucket grapple is typically powered by a third function loader valve / hose kit which you add as a loader option.

A 'disc' may or may not require hydraulics. Depends on if it has hydraulic transport/guage wheels or not.

With the attachment information you provided, you actually may not need any rear remotes. Having said that I would add two standard rear remotes to any new 40HP tractor purchase. Your needs may change. Or you might want a top-n-tilt for box blading, ecetera. When you get to picking a tractor brand, ask your dealer to recommend the best bang-for-the-buck rear remote set up.

Thanks for the replies.

I had planned to get 2 rear remotes, and then after posting this thread I waded into the top&tilt world. As I understand it, a T&T will require 2 rear remotes. For the T&T I can go factory or aftermarket, with the aftermarket being cheaper, but having some assembly required. I have access to a very good mechanic who could help me with the install (translation: my brother, who is extremely capable, will do the work, while I supervise a chair and a 6 pack of beer).

Understood about the grapple setup.

So, if I understand correctly, then I can rely on the factory hydraulic output to cover my plans, even if I go with an aftermarket T&T?

You don't want to go cheap when you do this! Make sure you have a six pack for your brother also:laughing:
