I just bought a new 5600 2 1/2 weeks ago I've got 9 hours on it.I noticed that when I leave the bed or boom up after the engine is shut off the hydraulics don't hold. After an hour or so they're bottomed out.Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks

I don't own a Toolcat, but I can tell you that hydraulic leak down is normal and nothing to worry about. From a safety standpoint I always put my loader and hoe on the ground when my machine is parked and release all pressure by acting on the valves after the engine is off.

This practice not only prevents accidental injury but also makes leakdown invisible so I never see it, can't see it can't worry about it. ;)

Grizzly1,

That's interesting... I have left my TC's shut off with the boom and bed in the raised postition (without the safety brackets) many times while I grease the Blowers, check oil, etc., and have not experienced any "leak down". I have never left the boom or bed up over night. Anytime we are actually working under the bed or boom for an extended period we use the safety brackets. My Case loader will leak down over night, but it has not happened with the TC's.

I experience the same thing on my two year old model C.

Thanks for your replies. While I would use boom locks while working under bed or boom,I found it to be odd that a new machine would have this happening. I have older machines that can be left for months with 3pt or Fel left up with no leakdown. So when it does occur on those others it's a sign of a problem that probably should be corrected.I like to do my homework before talking to dealer that's why I'm asking other Toolcat owners how their machines act. When this machine came in my salesman called to have me come in to see it.When I arrived at the dealer, they had the bed halfway up when I asked why and was told it was to keep rain water out of bed.I am curious if it wasn't to check possible leakdown.

I do believe the explaination about keeping water out of the bed. Both of the beds on my TC's hold water really well! I have been threatening to drill holes to let the water out. One of my drivers asked me not to drill his, as he likes the extra ballast...LOL

I just sold a MF tractor when I bought the Toolcat and the hydraulics would always bleed down on it. The front, the rear, the mid. It's just a question of time. Sometimes overnight, sometimes over several days. I never worried about it since it didn't leak and always held just fine when the engine was running.

The front hydraulics on my 5610 hold very well. The 3 pt will go down slowly over a few hours with a load on it. If the drop is excessive, you could add a check valve to the system and that would hold it at the same position.

I left the snowblade up on my brand new 5600 at 4:30 pm and by the next morning it was completely on the ground. I consider this normal. If I'm wrong, someone please let me know.

I would consider that amount of drift very acceptable. The OP has his down in 1 hour, which would drive me crazy.
