I have been doing some dirt work for a few days last week and Friday evening I got ready to smooth out the area by my shed so I got on the tractor lifted the box blade and raised the FEL. Once I was by the shed I was going to move a piece of concrete with the FEL but after I it was lowered it would not come back up. I lowered the box blade some and tried to raise it with no luck. Filters and fluid are clean. Seems like the pump died all of sudden but I didnt hear any noises that were out of the ordinary. Just find it strange that it was good one minute and not the next. Any suggestions on anything I can check without needing gauges? This is an older grey market yanmar.

I’d start by cracking fittings in a systematic approach- both in and out of loader control. See if you can isolate where the pressure drops. Also work toward the pump intake to make sure it’s getting fluid. Without a gauge all you can do see if fluid squirts out when the machine is on.....

Does the 3pt work? Does the power steering work?

The 3pt quit working at the same time. I do not have power steering.

So I checked the output line of the pump and I have nothing coming from it so the pump is not pumping. Thanks I'm glad you said something about cracking them open to check because I was over thinking it.

Is their plenty of fluid getting to the pump?

I would think so my powershift pump runs through the same filter and it goes into gear and shifts fine. I'll have to check the suction line somehow. I don't want to pull that because I just did a fluid change on it not that long ago. I have had a problem before where it had a lot of sludge buildup in the sump and stopped up the filter. When that happened nothing would work. It was cleaned out real good and has been fine until now. Fluid was changed for the new season and to make sure there was nothing getting built up on the filter again.

If the filter is clean and the fluid is fresh, maybe you have a slow leak? Try the following

"To pinpoint slow leaks, use compressed air and contact cleaner to clean away every bit of sludge associated with the leaky component. Once the area is absolutely clean and totally dry, toss a handful of planter talc, baby powder or cooking flour onto all suspected leak points. Then run the machine at full rpm, cycling hydraulic functions to pressurize all systems.Let the machine sit overnight, if necessary. Eventually even the teeniest, slowest hydraulic leak will reveal itself as discolored planter talc/baby powder/cooking flour.

Many slow hydraulic leaks are due to faulty fittings. Flared fittings mysteriously loosen, rubber O-rings rupture or metal fittings crack. During repairs it’s essential to recognize what sort of fitting you’re working with and reassemble it correctly."

I finally got around to digging into the problem and found the woodruff key on the hydraulic pump had sheared. Not sure what caused that but I replaced it and all is working as it should now. I will see if it happens again.
