hydraulics on cub 5254

Does the hydraulics on cubs model 5254 only have a one way pump for lifting so there would be no downward pressure on the 3 pt hitch, and the belly mower. Making it that the 3 pt hitch and the belly mower will raise quickly but lower at a much slower rate? I'm trying to purchase but was concerned about the slow rate that the belly mower lowered. (about 6-7 seconds to lower). That's when the dealer told me it had a one-way pump on the hydraulics and would probably loosen up with use. Any input will be appreciated.

With weight on the hitch it goes down fine. With no weight it goes slower. Belly mower raises and lowers fine.

What the dealer should have told you was that the hydraulic cylinder for the 3-point hitch is single acting which means it only has power up and gravity down operation. The speed at which the 3-point lowers is controled by a separate valve(round knob you turn) to increase or decrease the lowering speed. This is what controls the speed of lowering your MMM since it is operated by the 3-point lift arms. Sounds like the lowering speed knob is turned in too far which is making it lower slowly. Have him turn it to the fastest position then see how fast it drops(watch your toes!) It should not "loosen up with use", although some bleed down will be seen as time goes on. Your dealer is not very knowledgable about how the tractor's hydraulic system works.

Now for the pump. The implement pumps on these tractors and (99.99% of the others as well) are indeed "one way" but as I stated above that has nothing to do with the operation of the 3-point hitch. The only pump on the tractor that is bi-directional and variable displacement is the the pump for the hydrostatic drive unit, but that only powers the HST unit not the implements.
