I have a cub cadet 5000 with a 3pt hitch and front loader. I noticed that when I first start the tractor the power steering was difficult to turn. This improved the longer the tractor was running. Now my loader and 3pt hitch are stuttering or vibrating when I lift them. All filters and fluids are oem and are full. I am suspecting the hydraulic pump but after reading many of the other messages here I'm hoping it may be something simpler. Does anyone have a quess as to the cause of this problem.

You may be sucking air somewhere along the supply line from reservoir to pump. You may also have a suction strainer that is getting clogged. It is far asier to draw in air thru a leak than it is to draw fluid along a line. Warm/thin fluid flows easier than cool fluid so this fits your symptom of running better after it warms up. The stuttering action of the loader and 3PH indicate air in the lines. Check all the fitings between pump and reservoir and all the pump assembly hardware for tightness. I am not specifically familliar with your pump, but many designs use stacked components with "O" ring type seals between the components. If one of these parts was loose, you could be drawing in air past one of these seals. It is also far easier to draw air in than leak fluid out so you may see very little outward signs that there is a leak along that suction line. Look for caked on dust or any sign of dampness from oil.

Good luck.

I'm going to suggest changing your hydraulic filter and clean your screen. And changing the hydraulic oil probably would be in your best interest too. I need to do the same, as in cold weather..... and even in good weather when my tractor is cold, i have the same symptoms, though probably not as bad. I notice after the tractor has warmed up, the symptoms go away.

I have not seen any leaking but I think I will pull the fenders tomorrow so I can get a good look at everything. Thanks for the suggestions.

I checked all connections for tightness and leaks and didn't find anything. It looks like the hydraulic line runs from the pump into the power steering pump and then to the rest of the lift system. Could this be caused by a bad power steering pump?

Still sounds like air in the suction side of the pump or clogged suction circuit. Unscrew the filter and check the gasket.

I replaced the filter and the problem disappeared. Must have been a bad filter cause it wasn't very old. Thanks for all the help.
