I have an L3800, I have a disc mower on it now and the hyd cyl on the disc mower is single acting. The hyd cyl on the disc mower will not hold the mower level. I have two outlets on the back of the tractor, for use when using a two way hyd cyl.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to stop the oneway cyl from not holding positition would be appreciated.

I am going to assume this mower is one that has shoes on the bottom that ride on the ground. The cylinder is not meant to hold the mower level. The mower is meant to float with the terrain. I know the mower I have will do the same thing. In fact, the hydraulic lift was an optional piece. Manual lift was standard. Man that would be a PITA to lift into the transport position.

As mentioned above every disc mower I've ever seen was designed to slide across the ground as it mows. Actually I know someone who tried to clip pasture high by holding the cutter bar off the ground and broke the bar right beside the gear box. It is not meant to hold its own weight while mowing.

Thanks for the replys, the disc mower is new to me and I used it for the first time today. I do have some mowing to do where it is required to leave 6" of "stubble" I think that I will have to use the sickle bar mower for it.

As my Grandfather said "Learn from the mistakes of others, you might not live long enough to make them all yourself."

You can to a point tilt cutterbar back by lengthening centerlink so as to cut higher. Some brand cutters also have high stubble skid shoes.
